Through the gateway of dependent arising, correctly realizing the object is also something else. Those of lesser vehicle with sharp faculties, through the gateway of the arising and ceasing of dependent arising, those fortunate ones belonging to the intermediate Buddha, are also not abiding in the ultimate ground, therefore it is established as different from the supreme vehicle. Here, if one were to differentiate the ultimate of its tenets, there are three: the object of the aim, the nature of the conduct, and the fruit of accomplishment. Regarding the object, there are also three: lineage, view, and dependent arising. Lineage is: those who are not of the lineage of hearers and bodhisattvas, who have become of intermediate faculties. As stated in the Compendium of Topics: "The vehicle of hearers, the vehicle of solitary realizers, and the person of the great vehicle." This refers to the intermediate one. The view is: although they do not accept the self of the person and external grasping as atoms, they have not abandoned the momentary grasping of the consciousness that grasps the object as a false appearance. As stated in the Ornament for Clear Realization: "In order to abandon the conceptualization of the object, and because of not abandoning the grasping, the path like the horn of a rhinoceros due to dependence, should be known as truly condensed." Dependent arising is: it should be known by five ways, namely, division, essence, establishment, how long it takes to complete, and the way of meditation. The divisions are external dependent arising and internal dependent arising. External is like the sprout arising dependent on the seed, and so on. Internal is the twelve links arising dependent on ignorance, up to aging and death. Regarding the essence of each, ignorance is generally just not knowing the knowable, but here, in order to accomplish this life, the previous life's afflictions are regarded as ignorance in relation to this life. Action is generally just the cause producing the effect, but here it is the karma prior to the accomplishment of this life. Consciousness is generally just knowing the meaning of the object, but here it is the five aggregates first entering the mother's womb. Name and form are generally the four mental aggregates and form, but here it is the five aggregates after entering the womb, up until the eyes and other features have not yet appeared. The six sense sources are generally just the eyes and so on, but here it is from when the eyes and other features have appeared, up until one cannot grasp smells, tastes, and tactile objects. Contact is generally just the aggregation of object, faculty, and consciousness, but here it is grasping the object as the cause of pleasure and pain, and before actual pleasure and pain have arisen. This time is short. Feeling is generally

Although it is merely an experience, here it refers to the happiness and suffering from experiencing the gross happiness and suffering in the womb, up to the point of being unable to engage in sexual activity. Attachment is generally just clinging, but here it refers to the short period from being able to engage in sexual activity until there is no desire to seek wealth, women, or men. Grasping is generally just desire and lust, but here it refers to the time of searching for the object of attachment without finding it. Existence generally refers to all actions, but here it refers to accumulating the karma for the next life by finding and enjoying the object of attachment, up to the point of death. Birth generally refers to all births arising from causes, but here it refers to immediately entering the womb in the next life by the power of that karma. Aging and death generally refer to tending towards destruction and all destruction, but here it refers to all stages from entering the womb until the completion of the four: name and form, the six sense bases, contact, and feeling in the next life. From that existence, other dependent origination begins. The Treasury of Knowledge says: Ignorance and so on are the prior state, Actions are from prior karma, Consciousness is the connecting aggregate, Name and form arise from then on, The six sense bases arise up to this point, This is the union of three up to this point, Contact is of pleasure and pain and so on, Knowing the cause, the ability is up to this point, Feeling is up to sexual desire, Attachment is clinging to enjoyment and sexual desire, Grasping is running to obtain, all enjoyments, That existence is the action that causes the fruit to arise, Connecting is birth, Between feeling is aging and death, To dispel ignorance of the past, future, and present. Thus it is said. The classification is: These twelve branches can be summarized into three: karma, afflictions, and suffering. Ignorance, attachment, and grasping are the three afflictions. Action and existence are the two karmas. Consciousness and the remaining seven are suffering. Nagarjuna said: The first, eighth, and ninth are afflictions, The second and tenth are karma, The remaining seven are also suffering. Thus it is said. In how many lifetimes is it completed? If measured by speed, it is completed in three lifetimes. The Treasury of Knowledge says: The wheel of existence has no beginning, This is the branch of dependent origination,
