Refutation of the realm of inherent existence. First, if we analyze particles, since there are no parts of central particles and edge particles, there is no possibility of edge and center. The center of one is measured as the edge of another, so all definite edges and centers are negated, so it is not established. Second, if the edge and center have boundaries, are they touching or not touching? If they are touching, they cannot be boundaries because they become one; if they are not touching, they cannot be boundaries, like things and non-things. Because of dependence, it cannot be a boundary, because it is the center and direction of some things, just like the appearance of the boundary itself. Third, if something like a vast one is a real entity, it will be momentary and impermanent, and without particle parts, so it cannot be a realm; if it is a non-entity, there is no realm because there is no thing. Refutation of aggregation has three points: touching and not touching, one and not one, and being the same as generality. First, like beings and forest aggregations, etc. If they touch, they cannot be an aggregation, because the aggregation of each part disappears. If they do not touch, the aggregation will not be determined as one. If it is one, it contradicts difference; if it is not one, it contradicts "the aggregation is one." It is also the same as generality, because aggregation only refers to the gathering of many different natures into one, so negating generality also negates aggregation. The Bodhicaryāvatāra says: "Continuity and aggregation, like rosaries, armies, etc., are false." Refutation of the unconditioned has three points: analyzing the basis, analyzing the object to be refuted, and refuting the entity. First, the basis of saying "this is unconditioned" is not established, because it is only a label attached to conceptual, non-conceptual, illusory, and non-illusory minds, and it cannot appear to anyone, just like negating space. If you say that then generalities of objects and water moons, etc., are also the same because they are without entities, it is not the same, because they are determined by consciousness and depend on conditions. The Mūlamadhyamakakārikā says: "Nirvana is unconditioned, things and non-things are conditioned." Second, since all negated dharmas depend on the object to be refuted, since the conditioned itself is false, the unconditioned is also false, so it is not established. The same text says: "Birth, abiding, and destruction, since they are not established, there is no conditioned. Since the conditioned is completely unestablished, how can the unconditioned be established?" Third, it is impossible for the unconditioned to exist as an entity, so it is not established, because it is only without a basis.

This is entirely a fabricated assumption. Refuting the claim that "destruction is a different entity": If destruction were a different entity, then there would be things that do not undergo destruction. If that were the case, then it would not be possible for it to be a 'conditioned phenomenon.' Moreover, even without a thing, destruction would exist arbitrarily. If that were the case, then there would be death without birth, therefore destruction is not established as a different entity. Refuting the "existence of substances in the three times": The act of scooping water with a vase, if it were done in an instant and then remained constant, is impossible. Because the vase of the three times, the subject, would become something that can be used now. If the act of scooping water is done in an instant, it is contradictory. If it is done gradually, then contact is not established. If the vase does not cease, then it would become a non-entity. If its nature is permanent, then its state cannot change. Therefore, even a moment cannot occur in the present. If countless moments without beginning or end of the vase exist at the same time, then all the space would be filled with only vases, and there would be no space for other things to exist. Because the past and future vases are invisible, and the vase that is visible now cannot be the same entity, the existence of substances in the three times is refuted. If moments arise and cease, how can one entity be possible? If cessation and non-arising are invisible, how can existence and visibility be one? Visibility is contradictory, therefore one entity is lost. These are the summarized meanings. There is no self that cannot be expressed in four ways, because clinging to aggregates and non-aggregates as being contradictory, and clinging to permanence and non-permanence as being contradictory, has been refuted by valid cognition. If the previous agent exists later, then it would be like the self of the Samkhya school. It is also not possible for consciousness not to know itself and its object. If the object cannot be known by the mind, then the senses would even more so not be able to know it, therefore all beings would become deaf and blind. Not knowing oneself is like prohibiting the enjoyer. It is also not possible for the name and the entity it signifies to be different. If the name of fire is different from warmth, then it would become cold. If that name cannot be found from warmth, then it cannot be found from anywhere else, therefore it would be impossible for knowables. Because all phenomena do not have their own essence, this is in accordance with our view. There is no substance that is not wasted, which has been refuted by the naked ascetics who believe in karmic fruition.
