It is the power of the arising of arising. Similarly, for an imperishable pot, another destruction propels it, along with the eight continuities, to the past place. As the Abhidharmakosha says: "The characteristics are arising, aging, abiding, and impermanence. These, such as the arising of arising, combine with these eight dharmas." Thus it is. The three times are substantially existent: Therefore, past objects, such as broken pots, etc., do not completely disappear but always exist. Future objects, such as seven days, etc., also always exist from the beginning, but in the past and future places, they are not visible at the end of the kalpa and cannot be enjoyed. If objects always exist, then what distinguishes the three times? That which has completed the action of producing its own fruit is the past. That which has not acted is the future. That which is acting is the present. Then, if the later pot exists in the clay, what is the difference from the Samkhya school? There is a difference. Because in the present place, it does not abide for a moment, and in an instant, the causes and effects of clay, pots, and tiles, etc., are different. Therefore, the pot exists in the future place until it is not born, and once it arises, from that moment on, it flows to the past place. The inexpressible self: The self of the person who acts and enjoys the fruits of actions must exist. Otherwise, if a person keeps the precepts and is born in the heavens, the body of the person who kept the precepts will perish, and the actions will be in vain. The body of the god who did not keep the precepts enjoys the fruits, which would lead to the fault of encountering what was not done. Therefore, when passing from one life to another, although the body is abandoned, only this one self enjoys the fruits of the actions previously performed. As the sutra says: "When I was a Brahmin boy at that time, I offered flowers to the Tathagata Jewel Crown, so for five hundred lifetimes I obtained the body of a god, and now that I have become a Buddha, I am also adorned with names." From this it is known that the merit I accumulated earlier, the one who accumulated it at that time, will become the protector of the one who enjoys it in the future. That very sutra says: "The self is one's own protector, who will be one's protector? The actions done by oneself, only oneself will enjoy."

It is said so. Although it is so, I am neither this aggregate, nor am I separate from the aggregate. It cannot be said to be permanent, nor can it be said to be impermanent. Consciousness cannot recognize itself and its object, because wisdom cannot recognize itself, because the knower and the known are dualistic. However, it can be recognized by others. The object cannot be recognized by the mind, because the mind is unobstructed, and if it could recognize even with an obstruction in between, that would be too much. However, it can be recognized by the sense faculty itself. But not all sense faculties can recognize it; it is recognized by the consciousness that has a basis. As the Treasury says: "Eye's form, etc., with a basis, the consciousness based on that is not, because there is an obstruction in between, forms, etc., are not seen." This means that eye consciousness needs to rely on the eye faculty to see form. Name and the signified are different. For example, using white mane and tail to represent a yak, these three cannot be the same entity. If the tail and the white mane were the same, then the agent would become one, and the yak and the agent would also become one, therefore it cannot be used as name and signified. Just as the person grinding barley, the barley flour, and the millstone cannot be the same. However, like these three people, there are three different entities. The substance of non-disappearance is: the "non-disappearance" produced by the distinction of obtaining non-associated compositional factors, like a loan note, is a dharma distinct from form, mind, and mental factors that does not indicate a basis. Even if it ceases, it can produce a result. It relies on this life and exists separately. At the time of death, the virtuous and non-virtuous of the desire realm merge into one. The non-disappearing of the desire realm, form realm, formless realm, and the uncontaminated, are combined into one entity and transmigrate. Although karma ripens, the "non-disappearing" does not cease, but remains as it is, like a debt list of samsara that has not been erased. When does it cease? When the "non-disappearing" of the once-returner, the once-returning, the stream-enterer's pudgalas, etc., cease, that is, when the fruit is transferred. Transcending the realm also ceases, for example, when the non-returner is born in the form realm and the formless realm, only the "non-disappearing" of the desire realm ceases. When one attains the remainderless nirvana, all attainments cease, because it is a pudgala that transcends all three realms. As the Root Wisdom says: "According to its power, there is depletion, non-disappearing karma is like debt, this is the four aspects in the realm, that also self-
