has been done. That is called non-manifesting cognition. It is said that there are three types of non-manifesting cognitions: vows, non-vows, and others. It is said that the basis of mind is merely the perception of objects, namely the six consciousnesses such as eye consciousness. According to the Sautrāntika school, it does not grasp hidden objects, because it actually sees things like pots. Grasping objects also involves the eye, ear, and mind grasping distant objects like pots, while the nose, tongue, and body grasp objects when they come into contact with them, holding the same number of particles as the object and the root. As it says there: The eye, mind, and ear, do not touch the object, the other three, the nose and so on, are thought to grasp the object equally. So it is said. The basis of mental factors is grasping the distinctions of objects, and there are fifty-one types: contact, attention, feeling, perception, and intention, which are the five omnipresent ones; desire, conviction, mindfulness, samādhi, and wisdom, which are the five object-determining ones; faith, shame, embarrassment, non-attachment, non-hatred, non-ignorance, diligence, pliancy, conscientiousness, equanimity, and non-harmfulness, which are the eleven virtuous ones; attachment, anger, pride, ignorance, views, and doubt, which are the six root afflictions; wrath, resentment, concealment, vexation, jealousy, stinginess, deceit, cunning, arrogance, harmfulness, shamelessness, lack of embarrassment, drowsiness, excitement, lack of faith, laziness, recklessness, forgetfulness, distraction, and non-intelligence, which are the twenty secondary afflictions; sleep, regret, investigation, and analysis, which are the four variable mental factors, totaling fifty-one. Feeling, thought, perception, desire, touch, wisdom, and mindfulness, attention, conviction, and samādhi are in all minds. Faith, conscientiousness, extreme pliancy, equanimity, knowing shame and having embarrassment, the two roots of non-harmfulness, and diligence always arise in virtue. Like that and so on. All of these are different entities from the mind, and the place

And, the five that follow the mind are: object, aspect, time, and identity of substance. That is, touch and eye consciousness arise from one sense organ, and like a vase, they focus on one object at the same time, and both grasp blue, and the substances are equal to each other. As it says in the Treasury of Knowledge: Mind, intellect, and consciousness are one meaning, mind and mental factors, support and object, and aspect, possess five similarities. Feeling is experiencing, and perception is the nature of grasping characteristics. Formations are different from the other four aggregates. Thus it is said. Non-associated formations are twenty-three, namely: attainment, the meditative absorption of non-perception, the meditative absorption of cessation, non-perception, life faculty, homogeneity, birth, aging, abiding, impermanence, collection of names, collection of words, collection of letters, individual being, entering, distinct determination, aggregation, quickness, habituation, time, place, number, and assembly. All of these are different in substance from the three: form, mind, and mental factors. Like the palm of the hand and the fist, they are different in state and different in substance. The basis of the unconditioned is that which is not born from causes and conditions, namely: space, analytical cessation, and non-analytical cessation, these three. As it says in that very text: The unconditioned also has three aspects, space and the two cessations. Thus it is said. All three of these are established as permanent and real substances. The different meaning of destruction refers to the four characteristics that represent a conditioned phenomenon, such as a vase: birth, aging, abiding, and impermanence. The four characteristics that represent conditioned phenomena are followed by four characteristics: the birth of birth, the aging of aging, the abiding of abiding, the destruction of destruction. Thus, the four characteristics and the four corresponding characteristics, as well as the eight substances of a vase, these sixteen are like sixteen logs of wood lined up, existing as substances at the same time in different substances. Among them, when a vase arises, the root birth and the birth of birth draw from the future state to the present state. Therefore, the birth of the eight phenomena such as a vase is the power of that other birth, that birth
