That which harms others is victorious, That violent one with violent deeds, Will go to a hell that is extremely despised. So it is said. Refutation of purification by protecting the Dharma: Since the Dharma is not established by analyzing moments and atoms, purification by protecting it is also not established. Those who harm the Dharma should also not be killed, because they are the object of compassion, because they are the cause of patience, and because if anger is not subdued, enemies will not be exhausted. As it is said in the *Bodhicharyavatara*: "This obstructs merit," it is not appropriate to be angry at that either. If there is no asceticism equal to patience, am I not abiding in that? As it is. The contradiction is from the branch of benefit: Possessing harmless and truthful words, subduing anger, being upright, etc., this is the supreme asceticism, not that which makes the body wither. So it is thought. Refutation of purification by protecting life: If the body is not established, how can life be established, like an atom? In conventional terms, sinful actions should not be done even for the sake of life, as it is said in the *Sutra Requested by the Daughter Moon Supreme*: "Wealth and friends, as well as parents, etc., should not commit sins even for the sake of life." So it is said. The contradiction is from the *King Sutra*: What is not agreeable to oneself should not be done to others, this is what summarizes all the dharmas, others should act with desire. So it is said. There are three refutations of things without cause: it is unreasonable, the example is not established, and it contradicts one's own tenets. The first also has five: becoming always existent or non-existent, the effort being interrupted, being refuted by direct perception, it cannot be said to be without cause, and saying it becomes meaningless. The first is, if a pot is without cause, then as it exists in one place, it should exist everywhere, as it exists at one time, it should always exist, as the form is a pot, it should also be a woolen cloth. Or it becomes without distinction, because all that is dependent has no difference. If it depends on conditions, it is permissible, because it is permissible to place the pot in that place and exclude it elsewhere. As it is said in the *Pramāṇavārttika*: Because it is without cause and does not depend on others, it becomes always existent or non-existent. Things are sometimes born, depending on others. So it is said. The second is that diligence is applied to obtain crops and fruits by farming, etc.
