This is highly unreasonable. As it says in the Pramāṇavārttika: "The mind of oneself and the mind of others, completely severing, their essence will become one. The knowledge of meaning transcends examples, etc., without separation, and is not a sign of existence." And: "Therefore, from the mind, meaning can be accomplished, but from meaning, it cannot be accomplished in any way. Because without accomplishing it, meaning itself is not completely accomplished." And: "For those aspects that are not self-awareness, because all things are not seen, therefore, for those who say that mind is not manifest, an answer has been given." Refuting the kalpa of destruction: When a pot breaks, are the essence, manifestation, and kalpa of the pot one or different? If they are different, then the manifestation itself should not be the kalpa, because it is not the essence of the kalpa. If they are one, then the essence of the pot should also be destroyed, because it is one with the destroyed manifestation, just like the manifestation. If the manifestation is destroyed but the essence is not destroyed, then the manifestation and the essence will become different, because they are contradictory dharmas, just like hot touch and cold touch. Not liberated by knowledge: Merely knowing those twenty-five tattvas is not a means of liberation, because it is not the reality of what is to be known, just like appearance. The person who knows those twenty-five tattvas is also not liberated by the tattvas, because it is not knowing the reality of what is to be known, just like knowing appearance. In this way, the view that one's own mind is the Buddha is also refuted. Here, no matter what deluded phenomena appear, in reality there is no purity or impurity, therefore it is determined that purity is equal, free from elaboration. Now, stating the tenets of the Vaiśeṣika school: The Vaiśeṣikas achieve liberation through the six knowable things, but this is not correct. The non-Buddhist Vaiśeṣikas determine all knowable things as six categories of meaning, and believe that liberation can be achieved through this, but this is not the correct meaning, because they have entered the path of inversion. Here, understanding is achieved through establishing and refuting the tenets of their scriptures. The first is: Those non-Buddhists who say that they attain accomplishment by eating fragments of rice and practicing mastery, regard the fragment-eater as the teacher, and mastery as the deity, and follow the scriptures taught by them, such as the Śāntisūtra, can be divided into: the Masters, the Owl School, the Owlet School, the Vaiśeṣika School, and the Intelligent School. Among them, the Master

Because they regard Ishvara as a god, they are called the Ishvaravadins. Because they regard the owl as a god, they are called the owl-child or the owl-ites. It is said that when an owl landed on the stone lingam (phallus) on which the alms-eater had accomplished Ishvara, they took it to be Ishvara and asked if it was real. It flew around the six directions, with its head pointing in one direction, and that is how it became famous. Because they accept particulars, they are called the Vaibhashikas. Because they accept knowledge, they are called the knowledgeable ones. Here, according to their tenets: The agent is Ishvara; by worshipping him, one obtains happiness; knowable things are determined as six meanings of words; by knowing them, one obtains liberation. Of these four, the first also includes Ishvara's characteristics, qualities, and proofs. The characteristics are fivefold: He is eternal, he is one, he acts by the movement of intelligence preceding actions, he is included in the realm of the gods, he is pure and worthy of worship. Eternal means: he exists from beginning to end, without birth or death. One means: there is only one Ishvara in the world. Acting by movement means: he does everything, including bondage and liberation, shapes and colors. When the world is destroyed, Ishvara generates the thought of wanting to emanate the world. At that time, the wind gathers the dust and creates the mandala of wind, water, and piles of fire. Within that, he creates the egg of Brahma. From within that emerges Brahma, the ancestor of all beings in the world, with four faces, matted hair, sitting in the center of a lotus, uttering the sounds of the four Vedas. From his mouth are born the Brahmins, from his arms the Kshatriyas, from his thighs the Vaishyas, and from the soles of his feet the Shudras. Similarly, the initial formation of the world, the intermediate existence, the final destruction, and the ultimate emptiness are all done by Ishvara. Included in the realm of the gods means: he dwells in Paranirmita-vasavartin. Pure and worthy of worship means: he does not like impure things like dog meat, and if worshipped with pure things, he grants accomplishments. As it says in the 'Shiva Tantra': 'Whoever is subtle and one, dwells in one place, he creates and destroys all this; he is Ishvara, the supreme one to be worshipped; the one who performs virtues easily obtains peace.' And: 'The tree is the cause of the forest, crystal is the cause of water, the branch is the cause of the trunk, he is the cause of all sentient beings.'
