Regarding the three points of non-establishment of "self": The first is that even if it is liberated from other non-existent things, it cannot prove the universality of things, because it has not been liberated from its own non-existence, just like flowers in the sky. Merely happiness, suffering, and ignorance cannot prove the universality of "Lord," nor can it prove that the aspect that the happiness and suffering of the image of "Lord" points to is Dharma. The second point is that merely following nature and ability cannot universally become one, because "Lord" and "self" are the same in terms of knowable objects, and foxes and lions are the same in terms of living beings. It cannot be said that they are one in "Lord," because this is obvious. Using production to prove existence is a contradictory sign, because existence ceases in the second moment, so it is impossible to produce. The third point is that merely proving other things cannot prove "self," just like using a pot to prove cloth. If it is proved by "non-aggregate other," then it is contradictory, because merely aggregation cannot achieve the purpose of permanence. There are six harms: the diverse "Lord," the fruit existing in the cause, "self" enjoying the realm, "happiness and suffering" being hidden, "mind" being hidden, and the negation of the "kalpa of destruction." The first has three: effort is meaningless, the three cannot be one, and illusion and non-illusion are unreasonable. The first is that factors such as eating and meditating on the path are meaningless, because hunger and other sufferings of samsara are permanent. If it is said that the coarse that has become dust will be suppressed, just like coarse happiness will suppress suffering, so there is no fault, then suffering is no longer suffering, because it has not been experienced. Those subtle and coarse things also cannot be one, because their natures are contradictory. In the Pramāṇavārttika it says: If suffering exists in it, why does it not harm great joy? The coarse is abandoned and becomes subtle, the subtle and coarse are impermanent. Because there is power, it is suppressed, if it has not been experienced, what is not the nature of experience? How can that be feeling? Just like this. The second is that the three minds of happiness, suffering, and neutrality cannot be one, because the two natures of mind and feeling are contradictory. The third is that although these knowable objects appear to be diverse, they are the "Lord's"

If the nature is one, is the mind that perceives one as many an illusion or not? If it is not an illusion, then the many are truly real, because it is the object of perception that appears as many and is not an illusion. If you accept this, then the entity of one is diminished. If it is an illusion, then its object is non-existent, and because only the entity is non-existent, it is utterly impossible for it to be the entity of one. Some who assert in their own school of thought, this appearance of various things, although appearing as many, is true in the mind, just like saying "the taste is one," this itself is a negation. Refuting "the effect exists in the cause" has two points: it is unreasonable in principle, and the example is not established. The first point has seven faults: becoming visible, becoming unchangeable by conditions, becoming contradictory, becoming the effect able to function, becoming the effect equal to the number of causes, becoming everything is the entity of everything, and the examination of clear and unclear is the same. The first is: because there are mustard seeds in mustard seeds, it becomes visible. If you say: there is no pervasion, because it is not clear. Then, the present existence and the future visibility are not the same, because the two, clear and unclear, are contradictory. Among the eight reasons for being unclear, far and near are not possible, because the cause and the place are one. Sensory impairment, obscuration, and suppression are not possible, because the cause is visible. Non-attention is not possible, because the mind relies on the existence or non-existence of the effect. Being subtle is not possible, because it is coarser than the cause. Mixing is not possible, because a small container cannot hold a large object, and merely mixing a part cannot obscure the rest. Regarding this, if general non-seeing can negate, or cannot negate? If it can negate, then gods and hells, etc., are negated, therefore the materialist (lit. "thrower away") is established. If it cannot negate, then the effect in the cause of the Samkhya school cannot be negated. For objects, there are two possibilities, being able to appear and not being able to appear. For those able to appear, they are negated because they are not observed, and for those unable to appear, they are not negated, so both faults are absent. Among these, through the three obscurations of object, time, and appearance, an eon is not able to appear, just like a jar with unpleasant sounds, clouds with various elements, and flesh-eaters. What is not obscured by these three is able to appear, just like the sun and moon. Therefore, if jars, etc., exist, they must appear, while hells, etc., are obscured by object or manner, so they are not the same, but they are the same in not being observed.
