There is the fault of abandonment. Furthermore, deceiving faithful beings into lower realms with the view of emptiness, remaining ordinary by saying there is nothing to do, and proclaiming secrets to the immature, since it possesses many faults, the vehicle is explained in stages. By clinging to the extreme of emptiness, one denies cause and effect, resulting in the fault of falling into lower realms. As it says in the Ratnakuta Sutra: "Maitreya, clinging to the view of self as Mount Meru is still superior, but those with pride who cling to emptiness are not, because it is incurable." Since everything is primordially of the nature of the sky, there is nothing to do. Saying that doing so will ruin it, clinging to the idleness of the three doors, and remaining as ordinary beings, there is such a fault. It also says in that same text: "In the future, there will be monks with pride who are foolish like sheep. When the Bhagavan says that all dharmas are like the sky, they will say, 'Do not strive in any dharma,' thus making the alms of the village fruitless. These people will not even attain the bliss of heaven, let alone unsurpassed enlightenment." Proclaiming secrets to the immature will become an obscuration of the karma of abandoning the Dharma. As it says in the Intermediate Mother Sutra: "Subhuti, do not speak of everything as emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness in front of those who are beginners and newly entered into the vehicle. Why? Because they will be startled, frightened, and have wrong views, and will abandon it." And as it says in the fourteenth root downfall: "Proclaiming secrets to beings who are not fully matured is the seventh." Therefore, if one does not enter the vehicle in stages, there will be many faults, so one must enter only in stages. As it says in the Essence of Earth Sutra: "Children who are young in faculties and lazy, who do not diligently practice the two vehicles, will not be endowed with the wheel of the Great Vehicle. They are not vessels for the vast Great Vehicle. Children who seek liberation alone, whose intelligence and conduct are weak, and who have no loving-kindness, hold to nihilism and are attached to evil destinies. They abandon the true Dharma and teach what is not Dharma. They slander the two vehicles and abandon vows. Having taken full ordination and claiming to be Mahayana practitioners, they destroy my Dharma and deceive all beings. Because of this, it is difficult to obtain a human body." And again, in the same text: "The two vehicles"

If the extremely profound Mahayana Dharma is taught to those who have not been diligent, whose faculties have not matured, and who are not diligent, then both the speaker and the listener will obtain extremely heavy sinful results, which is opposition to all Sugatas. Therefore, even if one claims to understand, one will fall into nihilistic views, clinging to the absence of cause and effect, slandering good and evil, saying that the Mahayana Dharma is false, denigrating the sacred Dharma, presenting what is not Dharma as Dharma, and presenting Dharma as not Dharma, which is a great wrong view. Even if one is a human, one is a Rakshasa, and it is difficult to obtain a human body for countless kalpas. If milk is poured into an unglazed clay pot, just as the defects of the container will spoil both the container and its contents, both the master and the disciple will be corrupted by arrogance. A fool who is recklessly attached to the view of emptiness due to manifest arrogance, and who does not abandon the ten non-virtuous actions, even if he is diligent in the Mahayana Dharma, it is impossible for the realization of the nature of reality to arise. It is like a leaky boat entering the ocean, sowing seeds in gravel, or putting a small amount of poison in a container of food, which makes it unusable, or like applying perfume to a decaying corpse. One will fall into evil realms and evil paths, falling into great wrong views, with no chance of liberation. Therefore, one should gradually enter the Dharma, like a container. In short, those who wish to attain liberation must gradually learn various Dharmas. Because it is impossible to walk multiple paths at the same time, and it is impossible to attain liberation through only one Dharma, it is advised to gradually learn various methods. After that, the Dharma to be taught is the categories of vehicles, and all the places that should be taken and abandoned, and should be known. For the initial practitioners, one should teach cause and effect; for those who have entered the path, one should teach the categories of vehicles; for those who practice benefiting others, one should teach the five sciences, etc. One should teach the profound and vast stages. Therefore, those who wish to attain enlightenment should be proficient in all the places that should be taken and abandoned, and understanding its nature comes from the certainty of the Dharma that should be determined. This is also the determination of the measure of the categories of vehicles, and one can enter by knowing which of all the Dharmas that encompass appearances, existence, samsara, and nirvana should be known, which should be abandoned, and which should be accepted. Dharma, by its nature, is ten realms
