The eightfold noble path consists of: right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. The eight types of retinues are: the kshatriya caste, the brahmin caste, householders, ascetics, the retinue of the Four Great Kings, the Thirty-three Gods, Mara, and the retinue of Brahma. The meaning of "etc." is not limited to just these, but refers to the treatises of kings, the oceans (referring to vast knowledge) of brahmins, householders, merchants, and treatises on examining jewels, etc., and all the religious systems commonly known to both outsiders and insiders, all of which arose during this period of the abiding kalpa. In the manner described earlier, it explains the various phenomena that arise in this kalpa, and the nature of other forms of formation, etc., which are widely present in this very kalpa, indicating which realms above and below have dharma and which do not. When it abides in this way, it explains other distinctions: Hunger and thirst exist in the desire realm, but not in the form and formless realms. The three continents have many kinds of food, while in Shravasti there is only one type of rice. In the abiding kalpa, which dharmas exist in these three realms, and which do not? Here is a brief summary: Hunger and thirst exist in the desire realm, but not in the two realms above. In the three continents, there are many kinds of food, while in the north there is only uncultivated grain. That grain is of two types, one that grows naturally on trees and one that grows from the ground, called sālu rice. Furthermore, the desire gods up to nectar have meditative food. Humans have excrement and urine, but the gods do not. The three continents have varying amounts of rainfall, while the gods and the heaven of those with unpleasant sound do not. The six desire gods enjoy nectar of four colors. Above that, there is no coarse food. Excrement and urine are only present in the humans of the four continents, but not in the gods above the Four Great Kings. The three continents have good and bad years, fear and unhappiness, while in the heaven of those with unpleasant sound and the form realm, there are no good or bad harvests, and happiness is predominant. There may occasionally be fear and suffering.

Explanation of numerical differences. Similarly, trade in goods and grains, good and bad harvests, and specially constructed dwellings are also the same. The three continents have trade in grains and goods, but the northern and heavenly realms do not. In this Jambudvipa, there was no distinction between good and bad harvests in the first kalpa; it arose from separate divisions. The three continents have specially constructed dwellings, but the northern and heavenly realms have dwellings that do not need to be specially constructed due to the power of merit. The three continents and the desire realm have four colors, but the Asuras do not have pleasant sounds, only white. The three continents have clothes of cotton, wool, silk, and linen, while the six desire heavens have thin, soft, and light clothes. The three continents have all the colors of the body, but the north has only white. In the six desire heavens, there are all colors such as blue, yellow, red, and white. From the Brahma realm to Akanistha, the body is white. The four formless realms have no color. The three continents have clothes such as silk, cotton, and linen, and they are also heavy. The northern and desire realms have thin, light, and soft clothes produced from the wish-fulfilling tree. The clothes of the north weigh one srang. The clothes of the Four Great Kings weigh half a srang. The clothes of the Thirty-three (Trayastrimsa) weigh a quarter of a srang. The clothes of Yama weigh one-eighth of a srang. The clothes of Tushita weigh one-sixteenth of a srang. The clothes of Nirmanarati weigh one thirty-second of a srang. The clothes of Paranirmitavasavartin weigh one sixty-fourth of a srang. Above the Brahma realm, there are immeasurable clothes. Above the Brahma realm, they are born wearing clothes, and the clothes also have four colors. The three continents have heat and cold, but the Asuras do not have pleasant sounds and gods. Except for the Asuras, the desire realm gods do not have marriage. The upper realms do not have marriage. Rulers, subjects, servants, men, and women are considered the same. The three continents have heat and cold, but the north and the heavens do not. The three continents and the six desire heavens have marriage, but the north and above the Brahma realm do not. The three continents and the six desire heavens, including the Brahma realm, have rulers and subjects, but the north and above do not. The three continents and the desire realm have servants, but the north and the two upper realms do not. The two upper realms do not have parents and men and women, but the lower realms do. The six desire heavens have wealth but no grain, while the Asuras have grain but no wealth, no relatives, and are like forms. The three continents.
