Refutation of specific terms. Firstly, since the basis of dependence, life itself, is not established, the specific characteristic of "non-life" is not established. Furthermore, the specific basis, such as sound, is not established even in minute parts, thus it is refuted in the ultimate sense. Secondly, life and non-life are the same, one's own proposition is contradictory, and everything becomes everything. Firstly, if one proves that earth and so on have body, senses, and mind through touch, then why can't one prove that sound, smell, light, and so on also have ear consciousness and so on through audible objects and so on? If one thinks that these cannot be proven because there is no connection, then the mere existence of touch in earth and so on will become unrelated to the proof of the existence of body consciousness. Furthermore, since sound and so on cannot be moved and held at will, why can't one prove that these also have mind? Similarly, why can't one prove that space also has mind because it cannot be grasped and merges with the shape of the container? If one thinks that these are not reasons for having mind, but rather because their nature is born as clear matter and they merely appear that way due to the power of causes and conditions, then the existence of touch in earth and so on, and the growth of water, trees, and thunder, are also merely transformed that way due to the power of causes and conditions and cannot serve as proof of having mind. Secondly, are earth and so on self-nature consciousness? Or do earth and so on have consciousness? If it is the former, then each particle is a consciousness, and multiple particles are one consciousness, both of which are unreasonable. If the basis of matter and consciousness is the same, then sound and so on will also become consciousness, and the consciousness of a dead body will not revert, and past and future lives and so on will not be established, and furthermore, it contradicts one's own tenets, so it should not be accepted. If it is the latter, then the existence of consciousness in sound and so on is not refuted, because having a clear body is not contradictory. If one admits that consciousness separate from touch is impossible, then the consciousness of the dead will also become touchable and so on. Furthermore, if one plucks one's own hair and so on, it will become touchable due to the offense of killing. If one thinks that because there is no sensation, there is no mind, then it will be established that earth and so on also have no mind. Thirdly, if one establishes or does not establish the object to be proven with such an unrelated reason, then the eliminating lamp will become dark, and the darkness to be eliminated will become bright. Furthermore, because there is no stick, it will conversely become having a hand.

English

If everything, like dust, turns into dust everywhere, then all classifications of knowable things will disappear. Therefore, such an unrelated sign cannot establish anything. As it is said in the Pramāṇavārttika: 'For whatever has attributes, etc., if such a connection does not exist, those things are prone to error, therefore it is said that it is not a valid reason.'

It is said that Ma Drangsong Purbu (Tib. མ་དྲང་སྲོང་ཕུར་བུ།) composed a treatise called "The Essence of View - Accusations Against All." Grogkharwa (Tib. གྲོག་མཁར་བ།) propagated it in the human realm, regarding Purbu (Tib. ཕུར་བུ།) as the teacher and worshiping Indra (Tib. བརྒྱ་བྱིན།) and the sun and moon as deities. They uphold texts such as "The Essence of View" and "The Six Tantras of Purbu," considering that abandoning past and future lives and striving for benefits in this life is nihilism; considering that there are no past and future lives, only this life, is materialism; considering that there are no karmic results and invisible beings is annihilationism; considering that pursuing pleasure and beauty in this life is hedonism; regarding the sun as a deity is sun worship; regarding the moon as a deity is moon worship; regarding Ishvara (Tib. དབང་པོ།) as a deity is Ishvara worship; and regarding Purbu as the teacher is Purbu worship. Although their methods of fulfilling common desires differ according to the deities, they claim that their sectarian doctrines are consistent. The following explains their views, which are seven in number: considering the four elements as ultimately real; considering body and mind as one entity; considering that there are no past and future lives; considering that there is no cause and effect of karma; considering that there is no liberation and omniscience; considering that there are no invisible beings; and considering that inference is not a reliable means of knowledge. The first point is that the four elements of earth, water, fire, and wind are ultimately real. The mind is the nature of the body's energy, manifesting from clear matter, arising simultaneously with the formation of the body, and therefore is a component of the body. Because the mind changes according to the body's pleasure and pain, and desires and so on increase or decrease according to the body's flourishing or decline, and the mind feels pain when struck by a weapon. There are no past and future lives because body and mind are one entity, the two arise simultaneously, there is no conventional agreement, and there is no return. As the body decomposes into dust, the mind does not transmigrate elsewhere. Through the body and mind together, it is proven that there is no coming from other worlds. The conditions of the body cause the arising of multiple minds, and at birth, nothing is known, so later learning is necessary. If there were a previous life, there would be no need to learn, just as one does not forget previous knowledge when waking from sleep. Some people do not return after death, therefore there are no past and future lives. The mind also does not exist before or after the body.
