Furthermore, it is said, "If nakedness alone could liberate, then why aren't dogs and foxes liberated?" And in the Bodhicaryāvatāra, it says, "Apart from the asceticism of guarding the mind, what is the use of many ascetic practices? Enduring unbearable hardships, such as believing in Karṇapa, burning, and cutting sensations, what is the use of enduring these meaningless things? For the sake of liberation, what do I have to fear?" So it is said. This is also contradictory. In your own text, 'The King's Instructions,' it says: 'The Brahmin dwells in the midst of the fire, the fifth suffering scorched by the sun, that suffering is the son of the arrow (referring to Karna), the fifth asceticism is not like that. The flames of hunger and attachment, anger and desire's misery, whoever overcomes these five, is considered to have five sufferings. Any asceticism that is by nature suffering, suffering will arise continuously. Any asceticism that is by nature wisdom, happiness will arise continuously. Do not fast during the waxing and waning moon, because it harms the body, it is not asceticism, nor is it in accordance with the Dharma.' So it is thought. Thinking that hunger is Dharma is wrong. In the 'Satipaṭṭhāna Sūtra,' it says: 'Because of practicing the precept of not eating, one is born in a hell like a white lotus. From then on, one is born as a preta for three hundred lifetimes in five hundred lifetimes. After that, when one is born as a human, one is also born in a place with much famine and is tormented by famine.' This is different from the Donzhag, because it was said to subdue the Brahmins, and because it is embraced by emptiness and compassion. The previous Vajradharas thought that it was acceptable for those who understood it directly, but if one did so by understanding higher-level content, it would result in a root downfall, so the fasting of Donzhag would also suffer in hell. There are three refutations of vows: the object to be refuted is false, the continuity is not established, and it is meaningless. The first is: In general, the vow itself is not established, because it depends on the object to be protected, namely killing, stealing, lying, etc., and in one continuum, the object to be protected and the protector are materially contradictory at the same time, so it is not established. The second is: The continuous accumulation of virtue itself is not established, because the continuum itself is also momentary, and materially, it is neither the same nor different, so contact is not established. In the 'Secret Accomplishment,' it says: 'There is no object to be protected, and there is no protector, no channels, winds, and bindus, it will be accomplished through emptiness.' The third is

Because trees are not sentient beings, as they do not even have minute particles. If it is said that cutting a tree branch leads to rebirth as a dragon, it is because one is reborn not from cutting the tree itself, but from breaking its boundary and being angry at the Buddha. It is not because one has cut a tree that is a sentient being. There are three ways to refute afflictions: the object is false, it is not reasonable for it to be the same as or different from the mind, and it cannot be found inside or outside the body. The first point is that desire is not established because it depends on the beauty and ugliness of the object, and the object does not even exist as a particle. Therefore, it is impossible to have a mind that is attached to it. As it says in the Precious Garland: "If the seed is false, how can its fruit be true? The aggregates that arise from self-grasping, that self-grasping is actually false." The second point is that desire and mind cannot be one, because if they were one, then being born without desire would also lead to being born with desire, because it is true that it is one with desire. Moreover, desire and the one who has desire cannot exist in the same continuum at the same time. It is also unreasonable to say that they are different, because like the desire of other people, it will not harm oneself. As it says in the Root Wisdom: "If desire and the one who has desire are established as different, then why are they both perceived together?" The third point is that when one divides and analyzes afflictions such as desire in one's own body, one does not see them either inside or outside, so they cannot exist in oneself. As it says in the Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds: "Afflictions do not dwell in the object, nor in the senses, nor in between, nor in other places. Where do these afflictions dwell that harm all beings? This is like an illusion, so dispel fear in your heart and strive to understand this. Why cause harm to oneself in hell and other places for no reason? Eliminate afflictions with the eye of wisdom, eliminate self-grasping from your mind, where will it go? Where does it dwell and then come back to harm oneself? The foolish self has no diligence, it is completely in vain." There are three ways to refute bondage: it is not reasonable for the object to be bound and the binder to be one or different, it is not reasonable for the constant and impermanent to be bound in samsara, and there is no center. The first point is that when karma and afflictions bind beings in samsara, it is not possible for the object to be bound and the binder to be one, because the agent and the object do not exist. The prison itself is not a chain.
