Therefore, number is not established. In the Mother (Prajnaparamita Sutra), it is said, "In Suchness, there is no such thing as 'one'." It is not permissible to say that it does not exist in Suchness but exists in conventional terms. As the Lord of Nagas (Nagarjuna) said, "Apart from the conventional, the ultimate is not perceived; and apart from the ultimate, the conventional is not perceived." Therefore, even in conventional terms, things like entities and non-entities are not established. The idea that entities and non-entities are conceived by logicians is a delusion. This is because it is like children clinging to hair-illusions and moon-reflections in water, believing them to be real and clinging to them as substances. Although in conventional terms, people cling to the distinction between name and object and cling to self, for those who know reality, mountains and so on, although non-existent like moon-reflections in water and hair-illusions, appear clearly. However, the appearance of entities and non-entities is not so, because the tenets fabricated by the mind regarding name and object are completely pacified. There are three aspects to refuting magnitude: Not established as substance means that a mountain is not established as a substance that creates ups and downs, because it is small compared to a larger mountain, so the establishment as a large substance is undermined. Similarly, it is not established as a small substance, because it is large compared to a smaller one. Size is not established means that for any object, even a coarse one, there is no size difference from atoms, so size is not established. Also, in relation to other sizes, size cannot be established as one, as just explained. Similarly, needles and spears also have no length, as mentioned earlier. Equality is not established because of mutual comparison. The Mother (Prajnaparamita Sutra) says, "Do not consider form to be large, do not consider it to be small, do not consider it to be coarse, do not consider it to be fine." There are five aspects to refuting contact: The permanent and impermanent cannot contact, self and other cannot contact, that which has parts and that which has no parts cannot contact, that which has boundaries and that which has no boundaries cannot contact, and there is no such thing as having already contacted. First, the permanent cannot contact, because it either always contacts or never contacts. The impermanent also cannot contact, because one arises at the same time as the other ceases. Aggregates also cannot contact, because the permanent and impermanent are contradictory in nature. Second, self and self cannot contact, because there are no two, the contacter and the contacted, so one palm

It is like there is no object of touch that can be touched and no agent of touch. Other contacts are also nonexistent, because it is not possible for times to be unequal, since when one exists, the other does not. There is no contact of both gathering, because self and other are contradictory in essence. There is no contact when times are equal, because there are not two on one. There is no contact when they are different, like the warmth of summer and the cold touch of winter. The Root Wisdom says: That itself does not touch itself, and other and other will not touch. The toucher, the touching, and the one who touches do not exist. So it is said. Third, indivisible cannot touch, because it is indivisible, that is, if atoms without parts touch, having a surface would entail having parts. Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds says: Contact and indivisibility, if you see them, please point them out. So it is said. Things with parts also cannot touch, because when the outer parts touch, the inner parts all become untouched. That same text says: Atoms do not enter atoms. That is without gap and equal. What has not entered is not mixed, and what is not mixed does not touch. That is, just as a bushel of stones cannot hold a bushel of parts, so there is no contact. Fourth, when meat and a knife touch, is there a gap or not? If there is, is that gap the knife, the meat, or neither? If it is the first, there will be a knife in the gap between the knife and the meat. If it is the second, the meat will cut the knife, because there is meat between the meat and the knife. If it is the third, the knife and the meat will not touch, because they are separated by another gap. Therefore, if there is no gap in contact, then the two become one, and if there is, they are separated by another gap, so they cannot touch. That same text says: If the sense and object have a gap, where will they touch? If there is no gap, then it is one, what touches what? So it is said. Fifth, what has already touched cannot touch, because the act of touching has ceased and does not exist. If you think about all phenomena in this way, you will know that nothing has inherent existence, so attachment to terms will be reversed. The Minor Truths says: When things appear in this way, if examined with wisdom, nothing is found. This unfound is the ultimate truth, the nature of reality that has always existed. Thinking that you see, that is seen by the sleep of delusion. So it is said. Refutation of difference: From where the difference itself does not touch at first, difference is not possible.
