Again, like the sky. There are three refutations of time: essence, difference, and refutation of permanence. The first has four points: the agent, the basis of dependence, not being a substance, and not existing in common appearance. The first is: the limit of time, the moment, is not established, so the years, months, etc. connected to it are also negated. The second is: if the basis of dependence for the three times, past, future, and present, is not established, then it will always be either past or future. If the basis of dependence is established, then the three, past, future, and present, will not exist at the same time. In the past and future, when there is a basis of dependence, there is no object of dependence; when there is an object of dependence, there is no basis of dependence. Therefore, even if one speaks by fabricating with the mind, things do not have three times. As it says in the Root Wisdom: If relying on the past, the present and future, should already exist in the past. If they do not exist then, how can they rely on the past? Like that. Not being a substance is: summer and autumn are also established by the mind, but they do not exist in things themselves, because in appearances, they are neither the same nor different from them. Because moments, parts, and nature do not exist, the actual summer and autumn are negated. The summer and autumn of names are also imputed, so there is no contradiction in calling winter spring, because it is similar to suddenly observing and establishing. If something like summer exists as a substance, then mountains etc. themselves should not become summer, because when seeing a mountain, one does not hear of seeing summer. Similarly, if all appearances are measured by it, summer etc. are not established, then the general nature of summer etc. will only be established by the mind, and will become non-established. Not existing in common appearance is: when it is daytime in this continent, it becomes nighttime in other places, and the same is true for morning etc., which only do not exist in things themselves. There are three refutations of difference: simultaneity, sameness, and refutation of long and short time. The first is: the time of a pot and a woolen cloth cannot be the same, because there is no pot and woolen cloth different from that appearance, and the appearance does not even have a small part, so it cannot become time. The second is: the simultaneity of a pot and a woolen cloth is also not possible, because the simultaneity of the pot depends on the woolen cloth, and the simultaneity of the woolen cloth depends on the pot, so they depend on each other, and in the end, it will become self-dependence, so none will be established, because

Because time itself does not exist. If we examine each and every phenomenon that appears equally, it will also be refuted because it does not establish as itself or as other. As stated in the Root Wisdom: If a thing is established by dependence, then it also depends on itself. If that which is to be depended upon is established, then upon what does that which is to be depended upon depend to be established? Like that. Third, one day cannot be longer than one year, because if there is no day as the beginning, then the year established by it does not exist. Moreover, a year is also a series of days. A day is also just a moment, so a year cannot be long. A moment also has no parts, so it cannot be created. Because things without parts cannot meet, continuity is not established. Because there is no connection, length is not established. To be attached to length from moment to year, month, kalpa, etc., is itself ignorance. Refuting constant time: Just as a mountain disappears from the time of a mountain's time, all appearing things are similar to that, so there is no constant time. Without things, there is no time, because this is the reversal of impermanence. As stated in the sutra: The past time is also empty by the past time. Just as it is said. Refuting constant direction has three aspects: essence, distinction, and refuting constancy. Essence has three aspects: dependence, substance, and non-existence in common appearance. First is refuting dependence: This Saha world is the east of Sukhavati, and when it is established as the west of Abhirati, if it is only the east, then Abhirati should also become the east. Therefore, the ten directions do not exist in the objects constructed by confused consciousness. As stated in the Root Wisdom: Whatever thing is established by dependence, if it is not established, upon what does it depend? If it is said that it depends after being established, then that should not be dependence. Like that. Not established as substance: The Saha world itself is not completely established in the east, etc., so it is excluded. Non-existence in common appearance: For the people of Jambudvipa, it appears as east, for those with unpleasant voices, it appears as west. For those who go above, it appears as below. For those who stand with their heads upright, it appears as up. For monkeys, it appears as sideways. Refuting distinction has three aspects: the ten directions, the four intermediate directions, and the non-establishment of good and bad directions. First, the east of the ten directions is unique, and when it pervades, the east should not be unique, because mountains, stones, trees, etc., are numerous and distinct.
