This is the refutation of karma and general and specific aggregates. First, as for the things that exist in the world and are prophesied by the Thuba (Shakyamuni Buddha), this is not a refutation, because they are future Buddhas. As for the emanation deities, it is not a refutation either, as it is said in the Bodhicittavivarana: "Brahma and Indra, Vishnu and Maheshvara, Transforming into various forms, By the means of taming beings, With the nature of compassion, They perform various dances." Therefore, here, what is to be refuted is the fabricated Ishvara (Maheshvara), who is considered the creator even though he is not the creator of everything, in five ways: refuting permanence, oneness, authorship, collection of gods, and the way of being worthy of offering. First, it cannot be permanent, because it would be meaningless, without function. It cannot be one, because it is not assembled by those with limbs. Refuting the author has five ways: seeing arising from cause, becoming constantly arising, becoming simultaneously arising, being the same as oneself, and offering being meaningless. First, it is seen that smoke arises from a collection of fire, but it is not seen that it is made by Ishvara, therefore it is refuted by arising from cause. If it is said that arising from cause is made by Ishvara, then it is refuted by being obvious but not observed. If Ishvara is the creator of everything, then Ishvara himself should also be created, if admitted, then it is obvious that he is not created. Therefore, Ishvara is not created, and cannot be the creator of everything. Becoming constantly arising means that all external world and internal sentient beings will become constantly arising, because they arise from a permanent cause. This pervasion exists, because permanence has no intermittence. As Shantideva said: "If the cause has no beginning, how can the result have a beginning? Why not always act, because it does not depend on others." Similarly, all external world and internal sentient beings will become simultaneously arising, because they arise from a permanent cause. This pervasion exists, because the action of permanence contradicts gradual arising. If it is said that the cause is permanent, but it meets with intermittent conditions, so it arises gradually, for example, the drum is permanent, but sound arises due to the intermittent condition of beating. If you say so, the sound of beating from the drum is continuous. The drum is not permanent, so the analogy is not established, and the meaning is not reasonable, because it arises when it meets with the condition, and does not arise when it does not meet.

Therefore, it does not arise gradually from permanence. As stated in the *Bodhicaryāvatāra*: "If it is not made by him, nor by another, then on what does this depend?". Just as the sound of a drum depends on the cause of the drumstick, it also refutes that it is made by Īśvara, as stated in the same text: "If it depends, then it is a collection, it is a collection, not Īśvara, if there is a collection, it does not produce without power, and without it, it does not produce.". What is similar to oneself is: if Īśvara is not made by another Īśvara but is self-born, then the container and its contents are also equally self-born. Offering is meaningless: if everything is made by Īśvara, then there is no difference between offering and not offering, because both are made by Īśvara, it is established as the same, because it is one. As stated in the *Jātaka*: "If everything is made by Īśvara, then why did Īśvara kill this monkey? Why are you displeased with me? Why do you blame me for the faults of others?". It is also unreasonable for the gods to gather, because the gathering god himself is also apparent and unattainable. It is also not appropriate to offer, because one who has the nature of knowledge and compassion is worthy of offering, but one who eats life and is impure Anger itself is separated from compassion. There are two refutations of substances: refutation of permanence and refutation of impermanence. Permanence has five: refutation of self, atoms, time, direction, and space. The nature of self will be refuted below. Seeing a pot with the mind should not be seeing by the self, because there is no connection between the mind and the self. Even if there is no connection, if one can see, then the pot should also be able to see form. At the time of liberation, if that self is neither existent nor nonexistent, neither permanent nor annihilated, neither one nor many, then it follows that the self does not exist. As stated in the *Ratnāvalī*: "If the world, the Samkhyas, the owl-children, and the naked ones say that there is existence, non-existence, or transcendence, then ask, 'Is this teaching the immortal nectar, the essence of Dharma?'". Therefore, anyone other than the Madhyamikas who accepts any of these is bound in a box of views, because they do not want non-self either. The nature of atoms is: when they are together with what is combined, they are impermanent, and when they are separated, they are indivisible, so they cannot be established as permanent either. If the atom is permanent, then once it is separated, it cannot be reassembled, because it is permanent.
