The changing, the dark, and the conceit of I, although three kinds of conceit appear, they are counted as one conceit. From the conceit arising from suffering, eleven faculties arise. From the changing conceit, there are five "Tatmatras." From the five "Tatmatras," five elements arise, namely, from sound comes space, from form comes fire, from smell comes earth, from taste comes water, and from touch comes wind. The dark conceit acts as a helper in producing those two, but does not produce separate fruits. From the Black Lord of Power: From nature arises the great one, from that arises conceit, from that arise sixteen aspects. Thus, from the arising of sixteen aspects, five arise from the five Tatmatras. That is to say, the things that arise are not newly created from nothing, but have always existed in the nature of the principal, so it is called "the fruit exists in the cause," because the fruits follow only the nature of the cause, follow only the power, and the fruit arises from the cause. That is, the fruit follows the nature of the cause, just as woolen cloth is the nature of woolen yarn and a golden vase is the nature of gold. Following the power is also like the bitterness of neem, the sweetness of jaggery, an iron vase produces a shadow, but a glass vase does not. Because it is born from the cause, it exists, but it cannot be newly created from nothing, just as the moon itself is round and then gradually waxes, not like oil cannot be extracted from sand. The arising of a vase from clay does not have the fault of the potter being unnecessary, because when it is clay, the vase already exists and is revealed, just as a vase in a dark room is revealed by the light of a lamp. There is no fault of seeing the vase existing in the clay, because things exist but cannot be determined by two causes, as it says in the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning: 'Too far or too near, faculties impaired or unintentional, parts minute or obscured, suppressed or mixed.' Therefore, because of the existence of two causes, even if it exists, it cannot be clearly seen. Generally, because it is too far, it cannot be seen, like the movement of the sun and moon. Because it is too near, it cannot be seen, like the eyelid of the eye.
