The four that are established are: attachment to (the five desires), clinging, mental wandering towards it, and mental distraction caused by it. The six Tirthika schools are: the sparrow-chasing school, the wall-peeling flesh-eating school, the fox-skull-piercing school, the world-far-throwing school, the cause-and-effect completely-denying school, and the meaningless-chattering school. These are the six schools that are separated from causelessness. The four views of considering a cause are: viewing self-nature as a cause, viewing the maker as a cause, viewing Ishvara as a cause, and viewing time as a cause. These are the four views that are separated from viewing permanence. The two teachers are: the teacher of permanence, Shangka Dungdzin, and the teacher of annihilation, Bhriva Hati. These two are the fundamental views of permanence and annihilation. The one who says that the ultimate end of the Vedas is secret is the practitioner. Thus, there are eight schools of equal status, one hundred and one schools of permanence, eighteen schools of denial, twenty-eight schools of meditation, thirty-six schools of the six ministers, four incidental schools, six Tirthika schools, four views of considering a cause, two teachers, and the secret school. In total, there are three hundred, which rely on the extreme of the present. The eighteen that rely on the extreme of the past are: four speculations of permanence and annihilation regarding the self and the world, four speculations of permanence, four speculations on extremes, four that say to abandon gods and humans, and two that say there is no cause. The forty-four speculations on the extreme of the future are: sixteen speculations of having perception, eight speculations of not having perception, eight speculations of having and not having perception, seven that belong to the category of annihilation, and five that say there is nirvana. The refutation of these is: if these are collected, they are the two, permanence and annihilation. Since they do not accord with gross and subtle changes, they are meaningless. Since there is no permanence, how can there be annihilation? The three hundred and sixty views are also included in the view of the aggregates. As the Compendium says: "Just as sixty-two views are included in the view of the aggregates." This has already been refuted before. However, since everything is included in the two, permanence and annihilation, the refutation of these is: there is no permanence, because all things and knowledge change, and they cannot withstand examination in either gross or subtle aspects, so they cannot be the basis of permanence. There is no annihilation, because the things that appear to exist depend on their respective causes and conditions, and the things that do not exist, such as space, have not been established as the cause of annihilation, so they have not been established as annihilation. However, the self (pudgala) is permanent.

Then, are the aggregates and I one or different? If they are one, then as the aggregates arise and cease, I will also arise and cease. If they are different, then I cannot be found apart from the five aggregates. Because the coarse, partless atoms and the momentary, partless subtle nature cannot be established, therefore I cannot be established. As the Root Verses on the Middle Way says: "If the aggregates were the self, there would be arising and ceasing. But if there were something other than the aggregates, it would not have the characteristics of the aggregates." It's like that. If you say that I am not permanent, but my continuum is permanent, so I am permanent, that is also not acceptable. As the Two Truths says: "Continuum and moment, like a garland, an army, etc., are false." According to this reasoning, if the continuum is a continuum of moments, then the meeting of the past, future, and present moments cannot be established. And because there are no parts, moments and continuum are also not possible, therefore it is refuted. Furthermore, if I say that I can act on things that pervade sentient beings, that is also unreasonable. If it acts, it acts either simultaneously or sequentially. If it acts simultaneously, there will be faults such as a child's moment turning into an old man. If it acts sequentially, because the former has ceased and the latter has not yet arisen, there is no collection, so there is no ability to act. And because the agent and the object are contradictory, it is also not acceptable. If you cling to nihilism, then the vows of everything being without cause, etc., will be refuted as before. Now, in order to summarize the conclusions and tenets of all of these, the five Tirthika schools are taught: Those with many natures and various names, Samkhya, Vaisheshika, Naked Ascetics, Purana, and thus five. The Tirthikas are distinguished by various names, and although they appear to be infinite, if we summarize the tenets, then the former teachers classified them into five types: Samkhya, Vaisheshika, Ascetics, Naked Ascetics, and Puranakashyapa. Among them, the first four hold the tenets of permanence, while the latter is established as a school of nihilism. Among them, the first, the Samkhya, believes that liberation is attained by knowing the self, nature, and their transformations, which is false. Because the fundamental text of the Samkhya believes that liberation is attained by knowing and meditating on the self, nature, and their three transformations, but this is false.
