It is established as a term. Thus it is said. Nyuton Chokyi Senge said, from the "Commentary Analysis": The compiler explained the indication of intent in the human realm without adding or subtracting, so it is said to be a non-common topic. Therefore, saying "said" does not have the fault of reversing the topic. Lama Zur, the Omniscient One, thinks like this: In the tantras spoken by the Teacher in the Sambhogakaya and the many teachings spoken by the Nirmanakaya, some say "At the time of this saying," some say "At the time when I heard while walking," and mostly, "At one time when I heard this," etc., although many appear, in all the well-spoken words of the tantric scriptures, apart from "ཨེ་ཝཾ་མ་ཡ་(Tibetan, Devanagari: एवं माया, Romanized Sanskrit: evam maya, Literal Chinese meaning: Thus illusion)," there is no difference in the base of the word classes such as saying and hearing. However, when the translators translated these meanings into Tibetan, they examined the meaning of the beginning and end of the tantras. If the rule of the tantric scriptures is that the doctrine shows that there is no difference between the intention of the Teacher and the compiler, then it is translated as "said," etc.; if the doctrine shows that there is a difference between the intention of the Teacher and the compiler, then it is clearly translated as "heard," etc. The initial difference is the non-common topic, and the latter is the common topic. Among them, according to the non-common topic, the greatest necessity of translating as "Thus said," etc., is that the compiler acknowledges that there is no difference from the intention of the Teacher, thus indicating that it is spoken to the retinue who are not inferior to himself. This also has three essentials: The Teacher gave empowerment to the retinue before the lineage was cut off, so in order to show that there is no difference between the intention of the Teacher and the retinue, this teaching is the essence of the intention, that is, the teaching is non-common; saying "said" indicates that the compiler is the sixth person who has obtained the authority, and there is no difference from hearing, that is, the compiler is non-common; "at the time" does not only mention one time, therefore it indicates the equality of the four times, that is, it indicates the greatness of the non-common time. Apart from that, according to the common topic, the necessity of translating as "Thus heard," etc., is that the compiler acknowledges that there is a difference from the intention of the Teacher.

Having heard, for the benefit of the assembled and understanding retinue, it was heard from the Teacher himself. There are seven necessities for this: "Thus I have heard" indicates that the meaning of the teachings is free from distortion; also, "I have heard" indicates that without being transmitted by others, the compiler, myself, heard it, thus the compiler is reliable; also, "at one time I heard" indicates that because it was not spoken at all times, the meaning of the teachings is difficult to arise; also, "at one time" indicates that here I heard this, and elsewhere I heard others, thus the compiler has great hearing; also, "at one time" indicates that I heard without distraction, thus the compiler possesses wisdom; also, "at one time" indicates that without speaking repeatedly, it was understood at once, thus the compiler has great wisdom, there is such a necessity. Because of these names of the teachings, these principles should be understood, and there should be no doubt or hesitation about the pure teachings of the Tathagata. Here, it is said that there are four times, will it become the fault of reversing time? There is no fault, because here, according to the way of connecting, the four times are definite in number and order. Moreover, the number is definite, taking a long time as an example, one kalpa has four states of formation, duration, destruction, and emptiness, the number is definite. Taking a short time as an example, one year has four seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, the number is definite. By representing these, it is enough to elaborate extensively. The order is definite, taking a kalpa as an example, now in relation to the time of the kalpa's existence, the formation of the kalpa is the past, the duration is the present, the destruction is the future, and emptiness is the time that is not definite in either the past or the future. To this, someone says that even so, the previously empty kalpa is the past, and the one that will become empty later is the future, therefore it can be determined as three times. If the time of emptiness itself is divided into four, it cannot be determined which one is in the past or the future, why is it an indefinite time? Also, at the time of the kalpa's destruction, duration is the past, emptiness is the future, and formation is the definite time. Similarly, at the time of emptiness, destruction is the past, formation is the future, and duration is indefinite. At the time of formation, emptiness is the past, duration is the future, and destruction is indefinite. Therefore, the illusion of confusion arising from subjective assumptions is the four times.
