They said that if he renounced, the royal lineage would be cut off. The king said: Alright, find a girl who conforms to the rules. So, five hundred Shakyas each said that their own daughter conformed to the rules. The king said: The prince is very excellent, I want to ask him his opinion on women. So, the Shakyas gathered together and asked the prince. The prince said: I know the faults of desire, it brings strife, resentment, sorrow and great suffering, the world is like a poisonous leaf, like fire, like the edge of a sword. I do not need the merits of desire, I do not need women and beauties, I only wish to abide in meditation, samadhi, bliss and tranquility, in the silent forest. Having said that, he also said: In order to liberate sentient beings from afflictions, the Bodhisattvas of the past worked for the benefit of their wives and sons. I also want to do the same, but ordinary women do not meet my requirements. I need a woman who has no arrogance, jealousy or hatred, no hypocrisy, jealousy, deception or cunning, and is of upright character. Even in dreams, she is never defiled by other men. If such a woman can be found, please grant her to me. And so on. His father said to the Brahmin: Go to Kapilavastu and look for a woman who possesses these virtues. So, the Brahmin came to Kapilavastu and looked for such a woman. He saw that the daughter of Shakya Lagnabe met the conditions, and said to her: The son of King Suddhodana, is very handsome, possessing the thirty-two marks, and is radiant. I have written down the virtues of women, whoever possesses these virtues is suitable to be his wife. Hearing this, the girl smiled and said: Brahmin, I possess all the virtues you speak of, that handsome prince is my ideal husband. If the prince is willing, please do not delay. Even if I marry an ordinary person, it is fine. The Brahmin said to the king: The daughter of Lagnabe possesses all the virtues you speak of. The king heard these words
