Having abandoned, who prospers now, who declines, who is a vessel for Buddhahood, and who goes to hell, knowing through clairvoyance, he observed. At the edge of that city, he saw a potter's son of bad lineage named Nangje (Illuminator), who was a vessel for Buddhahood. To tame him, that monk begged for alms in the city, carrying a bowl filled with rice, and went to that potter. The parents had gone to make pottery, and he was playing. Nangje went before that monk and asked, "What is that in the venerable one's hand?" There, the king of Dharma said, "This is food endowed with a hundred excellent tastes." He said, "Then give it to me." So, having blessed it, he gave it. Immediately he became attached to the taste, and becoming like a hungry child, he was very hungry and followed him. It is said that it took about twelve years to reach Shakyamuni's palace. Due to the noble Great Compassionate One and the purification of Nangje, it is said that he arrived in the time it takes to retract an outstretched arm. Then, through the monk's miraculous power, he approached the center of the city, and he saw the Buddha, and being amazed, said, "What is this?" It was said, "It is a monk." "This is the Buddha! How did this come about?" "It came from generating the mind of enlightenment and accumulating merit." He asked, "Can I come?" He replied, "If you generate the mind of enlightenment, you can come." Then he developed faith, offered the entire bowl filled with rice, and generated the mind of enlightenment. After that, the potter couple lost their son and could not find him anywhere. Later, they found him at the crossroads of the village. After that, Nangje requested to be ordained, and his parents also agreed. He said, "Please ordain him and offer the request." Having requested in this way, the Buddha granted it, saying, "Monk, come here." His hair and beard fell off naturally, and he became a monk wearing monastic robes. He generated the mind of enlightenment relying on the bowl filled with rice. Nangje offered five conch shells, one pair of shoes, one umbrella of Kashi silk, and one broken pottery jar filled with water, and having generated the mind of enlightenment, he made the aspiration: "Through this vast generosity, may all beings naturally become Buddhas."

Yaṃ! Those not liberated by the Buddhas of the past, I shall liberate the multitude of beings. Thus, and with this root of my virtue, may I become a Buddha in a peaceful and pure place, to benefit impure beings, and may my name be like that of the present Buddha, named Shakyamuni. Thus, he made aspirations. From the Bhadrakalpa Sutra: A virtuous physician became a good friend, offered rice and made aspirations: Just as your body, O Tathagata, your retinue, the measure of your life, and the Buddha-fields, and your excellent and auspicious name, may I also become just like that. Thus, he made aspirations in accordance with that. Before the Great Blissful Shakyamuni Buddha, having made offerings with a gentle face, he first generated the mind of enlightenment. Thus, it is manifested. He first generated the mind of enlightenment. Thus, it is manifested. In one of the Mahayana Sutras, it is said that Shakyamuni Buddha was born as a prince named Kṣāntivādin in the past, and generated the mind of enlightenment before the Buddha named Light-Ray Heap. In the meantime, for three countless kalpas or thirty-three kalpas, as an antidote to the obscurations of afflictions and the obscurations of knowledge, how were the two accumulations gathered? In the sutra it says: For three countless kalpas, he accumulated the accumulations, the first bhumi surpasses the hundredth bhumi, the hundredth bhumi surpasses the tenth bhumi, the tenth bhumi Bodhisattva acts as a guide. Thus it is said. In those three countless kalpas, he practiced the hardships of the six perfections, and the manner of serving and honoring as many Buddhas as there are. The manner of practicing those six perfections is that the Bodhisattva was born as an animal and perfected generosity by giving away his head and so on to sentient beings. When he was born as a merchant on the ocean, even though his head and limbs were cut off, his mind was not disturbed, and he perfected morality. When he was born as a disciple of a great physician, he perfected meditation. When he took birth as Siddhartha, he perfected wisdom. The sutra also says: With compassion surpassing all, he perfected generosity and other perfections. Thus it is said. The manner of serving and honoring as many Buddhas as there are is from the first Shakyamuni Buddha up to the Buddha Protector of the Land, seventy thousand Buddhas.
