If these four are not present, it is like farming without fruit, which is meaningless. If there are no three lineages of self-abiding intention, it is like a blind person who does not know the way and cannot enter the city. If there is no lineage of wise ritual, it is like having no guarding dog, and wealth will be lost to enemies and thieves. Therefore, if these eight are not present, the conditions for a single teaching are not complete; if they are present, they are complete, so eight are reasonable and necessary, and more are not needed. Now, let us explain the names and meanings of the eight categories, such as the root lineage: The root is like the root taking hold, referring to the root merging into awareness. Explanation is like the flourishing of leaves, referring to the mixing of words and meanings. Branch is like the intertwining of the trunk, referring to the inseparability of emptiness and awareness. Scriptural and logical proofs are like the blooming of flowers, referring to holding onto the self-nature of the lamp and being able to demonstrate it. Instructions are like the ripening of fruit, referring to using the three bodies as the path. Self-abiding intention is like seeing the path of liberation, referring to using the fruit as the path. Entering self-liberation is like awakening awareness and clear awareness as the path, like a person with courage, referring to the lamp itself recognizing its own nature. Wise ritual is like the completion of the scriptural proofs of the instructions, referring to protecting the sacred teachings and making them last long. If we examine the words of these, the root refers to the root of the teachings merging into awareness, and the root of awareness is emptiness, free from the attachment to objects. By holding this lineage, awareness can recognize its own nature. By guarding this lineage, meditation can abide in its own nature. By reciting this lineage, the meaning to be expressed can appear in the mind. By speaking this lineage, one can obtain supreme and common accomplishments. By practicing this lineage, one can be liberated from samsara. By listening to this lineage, one can enjoy temporary wisdom. Instructions are, if one is distracted by the words of the instructions, one will be lost in the words and unable to reach the essence of the meaning. The essential meaning of the instructions, without relying on words, can lead to Buddhahood. Relying on the expressive of the instructions, the inexpressible meaning of awareness can be born in the lineage. The words of the explanation are, relying on the distraction of words, one can symbolize the wisdom of non-distraction. Intention refers to the uninterrupted nature of reality that transcends the limits of time, and it abides in itself, not arising from elsewhere. Scriptural proof refers to the arising of trust in what is unchanging and stable.

Is wisdom. The reason is: relying on that meaning, it causes awareness to be liberated into the state of Buddhahood. Is clarity: the clarity of knowing does not abide anywhere; the clarity of the senses can distinguish between dharma and non-dharma. Limbs: the five senses are left to their own devices, causing the six consciousnesses to tremble; grasping it, one can transcend the three realms. Entering emptiness means entering appearance, appearance and mind unite; entering the emptiness of appearance, there is no duality of object and mind, because it is self-liberated, it cannot be modified. The skilled one: skilled in the timing and key points of the Mamos, with mere thought, one can cause the object to be destroyed to weaken; skilled in the action and its completion, with mere thought, one can, without mantra and samadhi, seize the life of the object to be destroyed; skilled in the mantra and samadhi of the Mamos, the deity is close and accomplishments arise; skilled in the recitation, practice, and action of the Mamos, one can accomplish one's own wishes; skilled in substances and offerings, wealth increases and actions are accomplished. Having thus determined, for those who enjoy speculation, everything is taught; for those of middling capacity, these are summarized into eight categories, which are accomplished by the eight tantras; for those who are superior, the essence of the meaning of the tantras is taught, two divided from means, three divided from nature, five are sufficient; for those who are even more superior, the two tantras of meaning and words are taught; for those who are extremely superior and free from elaboration, only the awareness of the basic tantra is sufficient, because awareness contains all the tantras. In the "Inversion" it says: Furthermore, the nature of the tantra is explained, the true nature arises from sound, its essence has no letters, the lamp of self-aware wisdom blazes, the nature is pure and auspiciously beautiful, the view is fearless, the lion's strength is complete, self-awareness matures and is perfectly self-born, like a string of pearls connected by a thread, like the appearance of experience decorating jewels, the self-abiding emptiness is like a mirror of the heart, the self-cutting of errors is like a mirror of the mind, not born from others, but self-arisen, because it is self-born, it is self-liberated, being one in the sphere, it is also six in emptiness, virtues are complete, like a pile of jewels, self-awareness is taught, thus decorating recognition, appearance is pure, thus the sun and moon unite, awareness matures, thus the body's relics shine, all these arise from the basis. Thus it is said. Or, for those with elaboration, the basis and the heart
