With subtle wisdom, one can see. There are those who practice the five-fire method, which involves boiling sandalwood trees in sesame oil, lighting five pyres, and burning their own bodies. There are those called "fire-cloth wearers" who wrap their bodies in cloth boiled in sesame oil, set it on fire, and burn their own bodies. There are those who practice the asceticism of the three-pointed spear, which involves planting a three-pointed spear in the ground and jumping onto it to practice asceticism. There are those who jump off rocks or cliffs and lose their bodies. There is what is called the practice of the heretical Ajivikas, who cut out pieces of flesh from their bodies, the size of mirrors, from their left and right arms and the crown of their heads, and place their bodies in pits in the ground, allowing carrion-eating animals to devour their bodies. There are also those called heretical Ajivikas who practice the conduct of animals, transforming into the appearance of dogs and practicing heretical asceticism. Those who say that the agent is the cause are like skilled carpenters who create different images of men and women and make them act. Similarly, they believe that dharma and other things are made to act through their own superknowledge, and then they wish to be reborn into the retinue of the gods or Ishvara. The tenet of taking the agent as the path is that by doing things like building houses in this world, one abandons one's body in the next life, and the gods or Ishvara come to greet one and one dwells on the terraces of Mount Meru. The view of permanence represented by meaning is that meaning, in its own permanence, shows annihilation to others as utter destruction. Those who say that permanence is steadfast believe that meaning is a great, unchanging permanence, and they consider its nature to be uncertain. Others say that it changes temporarily, like this: meaning, in annihilation, views permanence as temporary. To view the cause as permanent is to see the object of the cause in the center of one's heart as round in shape, white in color, and about the size of a bean. They believe that it is not produced from the father's cause, nor is it created by the mother's condition, but that it is permanent. To believe that the result is permanent is to say that the cause is impermanent, that the mind is not a real thing, but that the result is permanent, and that there must be gods or Ishvara. To rely on the path for permanence is to say that the cause is impermanent, and that the mind is not a real thing.

The fruit is impermanent, thinking that one will not reach the place of heaven or Ishvara without help. The path is permanent, thinking that on the path of heaven or Ishvara, one dwells on the summit of Mount Meru. They want to dwell there on the path. Also, wanting actions to be permanent, they think that since cause and effect are impermanent, one can be liberated by permanent actions. They think that the land and houses are permanent, and they see all appearances as permanent. To regard the absence of permanent meaning as annihilationism is to regard meaning as annihilated. They practice the doctrine of permanence in this very thing. Taking evil mantras as primary, taking evil mantras as primary, they perform fierce destructive actions, speaking of the black Ekajati○ཕSu. They are very attached to it and desire the fruit. Taking divination and astrology as primary, they rely solely on the happiness of this world, saying there is no afterlife. Taking subtle magic as primary, they think that in this world one can use magic to repel armies, and in the next life one can also use magic to suppress, wanting to be born as a retinue of heaven or Ishvara. Such is the view of those who are attached to debate, harboring their own truth in their hearts, hoping to refute others. There is also hope for evil asceticism. Attachment to this world is called worldly benefit, acting in the affairs of this world. Also, harboring their own truth in their hearts, they belittle others. Some seek meaning through attire. Some seek meaning by making clothes out of hair. Some wrap their bodies with a single thin cloth, saying that they have generated inner heat. Some hold a khatvanga and a damaru as ritual objects, saying, "I am an emanation body." Some say, "Whatever good you do benefits me," relying on this. Some refute the reasoning of others with their own reasoning, saying, "This is my work," relying on this. Some say that the cause is extinguished, completely extinguished like the sky. Some say that it is completely extinguished, and their own body is also empty. Cause is also extinguished, and effect is also extinguished, that is, they say that since cause is extinguished, the mind cannot be grasped as real. Since effect is extinguished, they say there is no heaven and no Ishvara. Also
