When abiding in one's own nature, it appears as unwavering recollection. When abiding in a place of transformation, it appears as the aspect of diligent mind. When abiding in the essence of what, whatever appears is the essence of one's own nature. When abiding in variegated places, it appears as various individual states. When abiding in primordial purity, it appears as inherently without defilement. All of this arises from the sequence of mind, but one's own nature is primordially pure. Thus it is. Secondly, showing that the seven bases of clinging to extremes are flawed. Like the seven blind men describing an elephant, clinging to a partial understanding of wisdom, each insisting on their own view. Therefore, to refute them, there are seven points. First, refuting the belief in spontaneous accomplishment. This is divided into stating the view and refuting it. First, the spontaneously accomplished state of reality is not limited to India, nor does it fall into any particular direction. Second, if it is spontaneously accomplished from the beginning, then samsara would perpetually revolve and there would be no possibility of liberation, because it is spontaneously accomplished. Nirvana would also not depend on conditions such as recognizing one's own nature, because it is spontaneously accomplished as nirvana from the beginning. The basis of these two, being spontaneously accomplished, is also unreasonable. If it were spontaneously accomplished, it would not change, so there could be no samsara or nirvana. Furthermore, everyone would effortlessly be liberated, because cause and effect are spontaneously accomplished from the beginning. If so, then cause and effect would be simultaneous. If you accept this, then it is clear that when the cause is samsara, the result is not nirvana. If the two are one, then samsara would become nirvana, and nirvana would become samsara, because the two are one. If you accept this, then there should be no difference, and purity and impurity would coexist, which is clear. These and many other faults exist, as it says in the sixth chapter of the Klong Drug Pa: That basis of spontaneous accomplishment, is not the true basis. If it were true, then it would be like this: These sentient beings, through effort, would not become liberated, because they are stained by ignorance. If it is said that liberation comes from having wisdom, then wouldn't the result also not become liberation? For example, just as black charcoal cannot be transformed into a white color through cleaning, Because cause and effect are different, it is not spontaneously accomplished. Likewise, if cause and effect are one, then efforts become meaningless.

Therefore, regarding the basis of "spontaneous accomplishment," does it conform to the actual meaning or not? Samantabhadra spoke to me, "The great bodhisattva spoken of by the teacher, just as you understand it, this is merely a knowable dharma, not the true reality." This is the first view. The second view is: because the nature is not established, it is not definite; because it is transformed by conditions, it is not definite. As it says in the Mind Section: "From various indefinite names, the meaning is also only empty of imputation; because the self-nature is not definite as one, whatever is imputed appears as such." This is the second view. Refuting the second view: If it is one, then it contradicts not being one, harmed by the reasoning of different substances. If the indefinite basis is the source of samsara, then it must be definite in that place, so it is clear from one's own words. If it is the basis of nirvana, it is also clear. Furthermore, if the basis is pure, then it is not impure, so it contradicts the accepted alternating indefiniteness. Also, after the dirt is purified, it should revert to being impure, because the basis has no indefiniteness. Also, samsara and nirvana should be mixed together, because the indefinite basis can be transformed into anything. If you accept this, then sentient beings should be liberated effortlessly, and the Buddha should revert to impurity and experience suffering. Also, the basis should become definite, because it is definite to assert that it is indefinite. There are many faults such as these. As it says in the Six Spaces: "The basis of indefiniteness is spoken of, this basis also does not conform, my wisdom understands it in this way. Is the result alternating? Or will it become with reversion? The indefinite turns into definite, the indefinite turns into definite. Because one's own indefiniteness exists, if it is definite, like the four edges of karma. Are all these not knowable?" "The teacher spoke just like that." "Thus it is said." The third view is: the essence is unchanging like space, the appearance is unchangeable like fire and water, it is definitely accepted as such. Refuting the second view: Because the essence is non-existent and the appearance is unchangeable, the basis cannot produce samsara, and no one can be liberated. If nirvana is originally existent, then it is no different from the eternalist views of the tirthikas, and it contradicts the desire to seek liberation from causes and conditions. If you accept that the essence of samsara is nirvana and therefore unchanging,
