Just as it is liberated from the beginning because there is no water. All dharmas are empty in nature because they are without inherent existence, and because they are without self, they are liberated from the dharmas of objects and characteristics from the beginning. Thus, whatever appears and arises in external appearances and internal awareness, because the cause of arising is emptiness, it appears to arise, and it is determined from that very appearance that it has never existed. In the middle, in the face of awareness, it seems to exist now, but from this very fact, existence is empty of its own nature, so there is no way to clear the path in clear appearance. Finally, even that which appears to cease is empty of its own nature, and because it is unborn, it does not abide, that is, it is not established as cessation. It is like thinking that the water of a mirage is not visible and has ceased. It is only a reversal of clinging, and there is no cessation of objects, so it is repeated that cessation is not established. Because it is liberated from never having existed from the beginning, whatever arises in the mind does not need to be liberated again by an antidote, and this should be understood. As it says in the Garland of Pearls: "It is not liberated by effort, but abides in liberation from the very beginning." This is the actual practice of cessation and binding: when an object appears in the face of awareness, it is known to be without foundation, so it is released naturally without any modification or disguise. When awareness meets and appearance meets and arises, when awareness meets, it is released openly and without foundation, and awareness does not negate appearance, does not cling, does not discriminate, but the naked awareness itself is recognized openly and clearly, and maintained without distraction. As it says in the Great Garuda: "The basis of characteristics being primordially pure and completely liberated, effortlessly, without action, eliminates the obstacles of the mind, the cessation of enjoying the three encounters in the realm of objects, whatever arises, without distraction, binds between object and mind." Therefore, when awareness arises in appearance, in the interval of putting it down, the awareness of the open arising of awareness is recognized, which is very important, so it should be kept in mind and explained in detail. In Trekchö, Tögal, and the Great Perfection, cessation and binding are: arising, abiding, and liberation are the three, and arising and liberation are continuous. Because it is continuous, there is no interruption between cause and effect. Because there is no cause and effect, the precipice of samsara is cut off. Because there is no precipice, where is there a wrong path? Here, because awareness is continuous, its power is not stopped, that is, when awareness appears in the realm of objects, it either arises, abides, or is liberated, and it does not go beyond these three disappearances. It is like the continuous flow of a river. A rainbow has cause and effect in an instant.

There is no pause or gap. Arising and vanishing occur simultaneously, like ripples in water. Abiding and those two, through the examination of the mind, in the place of arising and liberation, cause and effect cannot exist, directly realizing, the cause of samsara is exhausted. The result, in the three realms and six paths, cannot revolve, therefore the mind is at ease. This key point has no error or obscuration, because it is pure in arising and liberation, error and obscuration are cut off in the nature of reality, it is called cutting off the cliff of hope and fear. The blocking in this practice is: whether the mind's appearance arises in the object, or the object's appearance arises in the mind, it is the same no matter what arises. In the place of arising, in the moment of focusing and abiding, it naturally vanishes, without a trace, nothing will come. At that time, abide in the state of vanishing, and recognize the clear and bright awareness that is present, the clarity will be even greater and more decisive. Others abide in the empty state of vanishing, meditating without thought, but I think that is the abiding place of awareness, it is quiescence, therefore the key point is not understood. In anything, it is necessary to recognize the naked, clear, and open state of awareness, this must be considered the special characteristic of this Great Perfection. The blocking of focusing and liberation is, between the appearance of external objects and the arising of the empty and luminous inner awareness, recognizing awareness, this is the blocking. As the Great Garuda said: Focusing and liberation, self-purified, ultimate liberation is completely perfect. Whose boundlessness, the two whose self-luminous. Unfabricated vast space, the great blocking that needs no seeking. Body, speech, unfabricated, blocking between appearance and emptiness. So it is said. The blocking in ultimate liberation beyond thought and expression is: the realm of Samantabhadra that is originally unchanging, without change, is the realm of Vajrasattva. Merely recognizing the nature of abiding, is given the name Buddha. Because the nature of awareness is not established in anything, it is Samantabhadra, because it is empty, luminous, and transparent, it is the vast space of Vajrasattva, recognizing this is called finding the Buddha within oneself. If you seek elsewhere, you will not find it. As it is said in Illusion: In any of the ten directions and four times, the perfect Buddha cannot be found. Mind itself is the perfect Buddha, do not seek the Buddha elsewhere. And as it is said in the Noble Entering Wisdom: Mind itself is the perfect Buddha, do not seek the Buddha elsewhere. So it is said. If you put this into practice, arising
