Whatever path may appear, it does not exist in reality, but rests on the bed of self-aware bliss, spread out in vast, spontaneously co-emergent equality. The point of this chapter is that samsara and nirvana arise from the dharmadhatu and its nature, like a dream, and therefore meet in the great equality of groundlessness. To summarize these points into one meaning: whatever phenomena such as samsara, nirvana, appearances, and existence may arise from awareness, they are merely spontaneous appearances without obstructing the way of playing in the spontaneously accomplished gate, and in reality, nothing is established. This is like how, no matter what good or bad appears in a dream, one's own awareness is asleep on the bed and does not go away. Without limitation or bias, self-appearance spontaneously arises as unreal. As the Garuda says: "The mind that has never been biased, to whom do samsara and the lower realms appear? Like false dreams, illusions, and cities of gandharvas, false appearances cannot have the power of truth." And as the Kunjed Gyalpo says: "There is no Buddha, therefore there is no name of sentient beings, existence transcends the dharma that is merely a name." In the Dharmadhatu Treasury, it explains the nature of samsara and nirvana not moving from the dharmadhatu, which is the commentary on the first chapter. Having thus established the nature of the dharmadhatu as the basis, now the meaning of the dharmadhatu and the pure realms appearing as the dharmadhatu is extensively explained as being spontaneously arisen from the beginning. First, the vast state of stillness is described as being like the sky, that is, the nature of the dharmadhatu is spontaneously accomplished from the beginning, without inside or outside, universally present, without limit, transcending above and below, without width or narrowness, awareness is clear like the sky, and is the state free from object, thought, and elaboration. Like the sky, the nature of bodhichitta is pure from the beginning, without inside or outside, direction, width or narrowness, essence, or the dharma of grasping, so the nature of the sky is combined with the meaning as a metaphor. As the Kunjed Gyalpo says: "The nature of mind is suchness, in the great bliss of suchness non-duality, possessing all aspects, completely without aspects, free from elaboration, naturally abiding like the sky, without an object of focus, uncountable, unspeakable." Thus, from the dharmadhatu of emptiness of awareness, the self-appearance of emptiness of samsara and nirvana arises.
