It is called the time of liberation into Nirvana. In the "Six Spaces" it says: Sleep should not be abandoned either, it is not separated by the mind. In short, body and speech each remain in their own state, and the various aspects of mental arising should not be scattered outwards. Even for the six objects of the senses, maintain awareness, and do not let the mind of discernment waver. In the great self-appearing non-conceptual state, the experience of clarity and non-conceptuality arises. So it is said. This also purifies delusion into Dharmata. In the "Madhyamaka" it says: Whoever meditates on the yoga of sleep, this person transforms delusion into the path. So it is said. The thunderbolt of self-liberation of afflictions is: Thus, for the mind between wanting and not wanting, it arises as a play from the power of the three poisons. It arises from the Dharmadhatu and appears in the nature of the Dharmadhatu. Since there is no movement apart from the Dharmadhatu, do not make any criticisms or modifications. As soon as you recognize the Dharmadhatu itself, and remain in that state, natural peace, natural dissolution, and natural liberation are key. Since Samsara and Nirvana do not move from the nature of the Dharmadhatu, it is merely the self-form of rootless emptiness. Afflictions have never existed, there is no basis for reliance, and no root from which they arise, so naturally, with a single "just so," liberation occurs. When the essence of awareness is thoroughly recognized, the afflictions awaken in their own places and then naturally liberate, just as when a peg of a knot is pulled out, the rope naturally loosens. If this is not understood, even if abandoned, it cannot be abandoned, like the body and shadow, it winds around itself. Even if purified, it cannot be purified, just as purifying crystal with white does not purify it, the purifier and the purified are not different. Even if transformed, it cannot be transformed, just as the color of jade does not change, the mind cannot change the mind. Even if let go, it cannot be pacified, because the one who lets go is none other than conceptual thought. It cannot be liberated by antidotes, just as wanting to clarify water but stirring it with a stick, the antidote itself is the same as what is to be abandoned and what abandons. Afflictions themselves are not Dharmata, because they are no different from the consciousness of ordinary fools, therefore they cannot transcend Samsara. In the "Sun and Moon Union Sutra" it says: Are those afflictions to be abandoned? Are they to be purified? Are they to be transformed? Are they to be allowed to naturally subside? For each of those, are they to be subdued by their respective antidotes? Are they to be placed in their own nature? Are they themselves Dharmata? Do those afflictions liberate themselves? Please, Teacher, speak.

Then, Vajradhara spoke: Listen, great sage, listen! These words that I have taught, Reside in the minds of all sentient beings, These bind them to samsara. If they obscure great bliss, These are not to be abandoned. If one does not realize suchness, Yoga is like body and shadow. From that, that itself arises naturally, It is not abandoned by abandoning. Likewise, it is not purified by purifying. Nor is it changed by changing. Without realizing the unchanging essence, Like a crystal rock or a turquoise stone, It cannot be purified or changed. In places that are naturally pure, It is examined by those who possess yoga. Likewise, it is not peace itself. Without knowing manifest insight, Like Mount Meru, the king of mountains, No one can destroy it. It is not liberated by antidotes. Without knowing self-purification without seeking, Like muddy water desiring to be clear, It is not possible to clear it outwardly. That itself is not the nature of phenomena. Without knowing spontaneous manifestation, Like the appearance of ordinary fools, Attachment does not cease. Thus it was said. Therefore, what cannot be purified by effort in other vehicles, Here, from the key point of realizing self-awareness nakedly, it is purified in the expanse without abandoning. That is, by meditating on the appearance of effortful self-placement, one is liberated through Tögal. One is liberated by realizing the self-liberated awareness of effortless self-liberation, Trekchö nakedly. Furthermore, awareness nakedly does not liberate afflictions, but the afflictions themselves are liberated by themselves, like a snake's knot. The key point of afflictions themselves being liberated in arising and liberation lies in not forgetting the state of awareness nakedly realized, so although it appears that awareness liberates afflictions, in reality it is not so." Also, from that same tantra: Listen, O Sage! These are two stages of mind, Namely, effortful and effortless. The effortful are those who remain in their own place, Through the measure of familiarizing with appearances, When the appearance of pure wisdom, Arises spontaneously in all places, inside and out, It is not born from conditions. As long as those arise and change, They are also liberated in their own self-abiding place. Therefore, yoga is appearance. The effortless are like this: Self-liberation by oneself, In oneself, The self-nature is self-liberated, Like iron meeting iron, Stone with stone
