Defaming, claiming profound patience for oneself, offering and receiving the wealth of the Three Jewels, and giving to those who recite the wealth of tranquility. The common ones are making aspirations, and adding the act of engaging on top of that, making a total of twenty. Secondly, the way to protect it is as follows: From the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: For those who wish to protect their minds, mindfulness and awareness are essential. Even if life is at stake, protect them. I join my palms in this way. Therefore, by not losing mindfulness and awareness, abandoning the four black dharmas, one should train in practicing the four white dharmas. The four black dharmas are: From the Ratnakuta Sutra: If a Bodhisattva possesses four dharmas, they will forget the mind of enlightenment. What are the four? Deceiving one's lama and those worthy of offerings, causing regret to others in situations where regret is not warranted, speaking unpleasant words that are not praises to Bodhisattvas who have generated the mind of enlightenment, uttering verses that should not be spoken, and approaching others with deceit and flattery, not with higher intention. The four white dharmas are also from the same source: O Surangama, if a Bodhisattva possesses four dharmas, in all lifetimes, immediately upon being born, the mind of enlightenment will manifest, and they will not forget it until they sit at the seat of enlightenment. What are the four? Never speaking false words, even for the sake of one's life or even for the sake of laughter, abiding with a higher intention in the presence of all sentient beings without deceit or flattery, generating the perception of a teacher towards Bodhisattvas and proclaiming their true praises in the four directions, and because they do not desire the lesser vehicle, causing all sentient beings who are to be fully ripened to truly attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Similarly, from the Arya Samadhiraja Sutra: Young one, if you possess four perceptions, the mind of enlightenment will become stable. What are the four? Having the perception of a Buddha towards a truly virtuous spiritual friend, having the perception of the path towards the Dharma taught by them, having the perception of companions on the path towards those who practice there, and having the perception of all sentient beings as one's only child.

Thus it is. If the precepts are impaired, one should confess the faults with regret and take them again, so that they will be restored. As it is said in the "Twenty Precepts Sutra": "The precepts should be taken again." And so on. In short, one should always abandon what should be abandoned day and night, practice what should be practiced, and not be separated from the thought of wanting to become a Buddha for the sake of others. One should train in this way. The detailed meaning of these should be understood from the Great Chariot of Definitive Meaning. The explanation of how to generate the mind [of enlightenment] is finished. The third meaning, how to progress on the path with that method, has five aspects: Explanation of the path of accumulation, the path of joining, the path of seeing, the path of meditation, and the path of no more learning. The first has two aspects: the basis and the nature. The basis is the basis of the newly generated Mahayana mind. That is, after first obtaining the Mahayana mind, one can enter the small stage of the path of accumulation. The nature has three aspects: cause, result, and essence. The cause is the naturally abiding lineage, awakened by hearing and thinking about the Mahayana. The result is the four: the path of joining, the path of seeing, the path of meditation, and the path of no more learning. The essence has four aspects: characteristic, basis, classification, and special qualities. The first is that after first entering the Mahayana, until the Mahayana heat has not arisen, the virtue that is not separated from the Mahayana mind is the characteristic. It represents the term of the Mahayana path of accumulation, and it is the virtue that obtains Buddhahood, included by the first one. And, it becomes the cause of the first moment of the Mahayana heat and other decisive factors arising in the mindstream. As it is said in the Small Commentary: "One who is joyful because the part of liberation is born will definitely give rise to the part of decision." The basis is that after first entering the Mahayana, before the Mahayana path of joining has arisen, the ethics that are motivated by the desire for perfect enlightenment, guarding the sense doors, knowing the measure of food, not sleeping in the upper and lower parts of the night, diligently practicing yoga, knowing the activities of acceptance and rejection and abiding accordingly, thus generating joy, not regretting virtuous deeds, having joy and faith and aspiration, etc., becoming the cause of liberation, other virtuous deeds, and the wisdom arising from hearing, thinking, and meditating, included, the path of joining arises
