Dividing by realms (Sanskrit: dhātu), there are four in the desire realm, and three each in the two upper realms, totaling ten. Dividing by grounds, there are four grounds in the desire realm, four in the meditative concentration realm, and four in the formless realm, totaling eight grounds. Adding three and three, the total is twenty-eight. Dividing by grounds and size, the desire realm, the four meditative concentrations, and the four formless realms, in these nine grounds, each of the three types of desire (great, medium, and small) is further divided into three, resulting in nine sets of nine. Similarly, there are nine sets of nine for pride, nine sets of nine for ignorance, and one set of nine for anger in the desire realm, totaling two hundred and fifty-two. As stated in the Abhidharmakośa: "The four are abandoned by cultivation, except for anger, they themselves are similar to the form and formless realms." How are these to-be-cultivated abandonments eliminated? They are eliminated simultaneously with the cessation of that ground, thus they are eliminated by cessation-transformation. As stated in the same text: "The mind of the non-learner is subject to arising-transformation, from obscurations it is liberated-transformation, by the path of cessation-transformation, its obscurations are thoroughly abandoned." That is, by a single path, the to-be-cultivated abandonments of the three realms are eliminated together, that is, the smallest cessation of the small path of cultivation, and the "greatest causeless cessation of the great to-be-cultivated abandonment" occur simultaneously. Gradually, in the nine grounds, there are nine to-be-cultivated abandonments, which are gradually eliminated. Thus, after the completion of the path of cultivation, the two wisdoms of the knowledge of exhaustion of results and the knowledge of non-arising are manifested. As stated in the same text: "Exhaustion and non-arising knowledge are called enlightenment." That is, suffering should be known, origination should be abandoned, cessation should be realized, and the path should be relied upon. Knowing in this way is the knowledge of exhaustion. As stated in the same text: "Exhaustion knowledge is from all truths, complete knowledge and so forth are certain." Furthermore, having already known suffering, there is nothing else to be known, etc., which is the knowledge of non-arising. "Complete knowledge has nothing to be known," etc., is considered the mind of non-arising. Thus, one who possesses the two wisdoms is an Arhat. There are two types: with remainder and without remainder. With remainder refers to not having abandoned the aggregates of appropriation, because a small remainder of the truth of suffering remains, therefore it is

因此,应当极其守护诸根。于有余依之身,以智慧了悟无我,即使断除了三界所应断之法,但因未以禅定获得神通等功德,故阿罗汉有无功德与有功德两种。此外还有两种

Therefore, one should diligently guard the senses. In the case of the Arhat with remainder, having realized selflessness through wisdom, even though they have abandoned what is to be abandoned in the three realms, because they have not attained the qualities such as miraculous powers through meditative concentration, there are two types of Arhats: those without qualities and those with qualities. Furthermore, there are two other distinctions: based on abandonment and based on faculties. The first is that Arhats are liberated from both aspects (both liberation and wisdom liberation), and liberation from the aspect of wisdom, in order: through the power of wisdom and meditative concentration, liberation from the obscurations of afflictions and the obscurations of meditative absorption in the three realms, and liberation from the obscurations of afflictions but not from the obscurations of meditative absorption. The obscurations of afflictions are the three poisons, etc., which cause complete affliction, while the obscurations of meditative absorption are agitation and dullness, etc., which obstruct meditative concentration. Among these, the obscuration of meditative absorption that obstructs the cause of arising is the obscuration prior to meditative concentration, and that which obstructs the abiding of the result is that which does not allow the mind to abide in the present. This has the same name as the Great Vehicle, but the meaning is different. Distinguishing based on faculties, there are six types: those who are subject to falling away, those who are subject to self-harm, those who are to be protected, those who are immovable from their state, those who possess a share of realization and are unmoving. The first is that dull faculties fall away from the state of bliss due to seeing the Dharma. That is, they fall away from the bliss of meditative concentration. The second is that dull faculties do not fall away if they contemplate self-harm, but fall away if they do not contemplate self-harm. Transforming life into enjoyment is called those who contemplate death. The third is that dull faculties fall away from the state of bliss if intoxicated, and do not fall away if not intoxicated. That is, whether or not the mind is distracted by sensual pleasures. The fourth is that dull faculties do not fall away from the state of bliss, and also do not have a share of taming the faculties. The fifth is that dull faculties do not fall away from the state of bliss, and have a share of taming the faculties. Possessing a share of realization means that they can hear higher Dharma. The sixth is that sharp faculties do not change from falling away from the bliss of the present Dharma. All six of these exist in the desire realm, while in the upper two realms, there are only the two types: those who are immovable from their state and those who are unmoving.
