All phenomena, including mind and mental factors, as well as the various appearances of objects, are all relative truths. Even after attaining the ground, the part where mind and mental factors have not ceased, and the impure objects, such as the appearance of the six aggregates of form, etc., all these to-be-abandoned aspects are relegated to the category of relative truth and are considered to be illusions. The characteristic of the ultimate truth is the nature that is free from the elaboration of grasping and being grasped. That is, from the perspective of not being directly understood by sounds, words, etc., it is not knowledge obtained from elsewhere, the confusion of mind and mental factors is pacified in the realm of reality, transcending conceptual thought, and is free from all elaboration. As it says in the Madhyamakavatara: "Not touched by philosophical tenets, as it says in the Root Wisdom: 'Not obtained from others, peaceful and without elaboration, without separate meanings of conceptual thought, this is called reality.'" That is, concepts such as same or different are the tenets of realists, and not only is it ignorance, but the statement "free from elaboration is the Madhyamika" is also not established. In short, the profound and peaceful Dharma of Nirvana, the realm of reality that is naturally pure, and the wisdom that realizes it, free from all obscurations, appearing as the pure and unchanging realm of the Buddha's wisdom, and the wisdom of equipoise of those who have attained the ground, the subsequent attainment where equipoise and its nature abide as one, appearing as the form of insight, all these are the ultimate truth. If we differentiate, there are two, as it says in the Root Wisdom: "The Buddhas teach the Dharma based on two truths, one is called the relative truth, and the other is the ultimate truth." That is, in the face of a deluded mind, the appearance of various objects of knowledge is the relative truth, while in the undeluded nature, abiding in a state beyond any thought or expression, is distinguished as the ultimate truth. As it says in the Madhyamakavatara: "By seeing real objects and distorted views, one grasps the true nature of real objects, this is called true seeing, seeing illusions is considered the relative truth." The relative truth can be divided into two types: the false relative truth that appears as the object of defective sense faculties, and the true relative truth that appears as the object of non-defective sense faculties. The first is, like the appearance of two moons and dreams, etc., in the minds of ordinary people, but is considered unreal, even the Madhyamikas do not deny it.

It is named as conventional truth that is merely a term for understanding names, and what appears in the minds of worldly people, such as the appearance of one moon, and is considered to be true, is also named here as the true conventional truth. As it says in that very text: "Whatever is the object of the six unimpaired senses, in relation to the world, is also true for the world, and the rest is established as being reversed in the world itself." Thus it is said. Therefore, just as what appears as hair to a confused mind is not seen at all by a clear eye, so too, what appears in various ways to a confused mind. For the samadhi of the noble ones and the Buddhas who have exhausted confusion, there is nothing to be taken as an object, therefore it is considered that the current confused appearance, which is spontaneous and has parts, does not appear. As it says in that very text: "Due to the power of cataracts, hair and so on, whatever reversed things are discriminated, by whatever self the eye is clear, whatever is seen, should be known here in the same way." Thus it is said. Moreover, due to the merit of the beings to be tamed and the blessings of the Buddha, the emanations that appear accomplish the purpose, just like in a dream. Without falling asleep, the emanations are sent forth, and when teaching the Dharma and so on, the self-appearances accomplish the purpose in accordance, the dreams that appear to the beings to be tamed also appear without ceasing, and when it is known that they actually appear at that time, one does not have dreams, because one has not fallen asleep. In the same way, knowing that confused appearances arise for sentient beings, one accomplishes the purpose, but the Buddha himself does not have even a slight confused appearance. The distinction here is made in relation to the characteristics, and it is considered to be beyond the distinction of nature, because it is emptiness. Moreover, the emptiness that has the realm of appearance, in the Explanation of the Awakening Mind, it says: "Conventional truth is taught as emptiness, emptiness alone is conventional truth, just like conditioned and impermanent, without it, it will not arise, it is certain." Thus it is said. If the distinction is established as different, then it is reversed, as it says in the Sutra Explaining the Definitive Meaning: "The characteristics of the formative realm and the ultimate meaning, are the characteristics of being separated from one and different, whoever thinks of one and different, those are engaged in improper views." Thus it is said. Fourth, the number is definite, because liberation or non-liberation from elaboration is determined to be contradictory, so the third aggregate of the affirming and negating sides is excluded, so the number is determined to be two.
