Because of the change, the reason and the rationality are not established. Even if it is like thinking that all dharmas are different, it is said in the Sutra Unraveling the Thought: Even if the ultimate truth is directly realized, because it is observed separately from the conventional truth, Nirvana will not be attained. The ultimate truth, which is different from the conventional and the dharmas, is not the nature of the conventional truth, just as a vase is not the nature of cloth. Because the two truths are different dharmas, merely the non-establishment of the conventional will not become the ultimate truth, just as merely the non-establishment of the vase is not cloth. Even at the time of attaining Nirvana by directly realizing the ultimate truth, because it is observed separately from the conventional, it will also become all afflictions. Therefore, in the continuum of one person, it will not be contradictory for all afflictions and purification to exist simultaneously, thus establishing harm with five reasons. Therefore, the ultimate truth, which is free from all elaborations, cannot be said to be different or the same entity from the conventional truth, it is merely a difference that negates oneness. The meaning of the definition or name is that the Sanskrit word "saṁvṛti" means to conceal, therefore it is conventional, it is the deluded consciousness that conceals the true meaning. It is truth on the object, therefore it is satya, that is, the appearance of various dharmas such as form, its nature is like a dream. The Sanskrit word "paramārtha" means that it must be the result sought by those who seek the excellent meaning, therefore it is ultimate. It itself is the nature of non-deluded wisdom. It itself is extremely excellent, therefore it is also śreṣṭha. Non-deluded wisdom is satya on the object, therefore it is suchness. The determination of number is that these knowable forms, etc., negate all the two extremes of existence and non-existence, etc., therefore it must be with two extremes. Because the middle third skandha is excluded, it is with two extremes. The two that are away from the two extremes are determined as two in number, and it is determined by the valid cognition that holds the two extremes. These two are established as the two truths, therefore the determination of number is established. The detailed classification is two kinds, namely the ultimate truth and the conventional truth. Thus, also in the Sutra of the Meeting of Father and Son

Oh, it is like this. The truths of the wise in the world are two: you do not need to hear from others, you can see for yourself. These are the conventional truth and the ultimate truth, and there is no third truth besides these. Thus it is said. Conventional truth can also be divided into two types: false conventional truth, which appears but cannot perform a function, and true conventional truth, which appears and can perform a function. As it is said in the two truths: Although appearances are similar, their functions differ, because of the ability or inability to perform a function. They are divided into true and untrue, and the distinctions of conventional truth are also made in this way. Thus it is said. Among them, that which accords with appearance and can perform a function, is born from causes, is devoid of imputation, and appears in accordance with its own kind, that is, phenomena such as form that possess these four characteristics are true conventional truths, each capable of performing its respective function. However, that which appears but cannot perform a function, such as falling hair and the appearance of two moons, etc., are false conventional truths, which are distinguished because they cannot perform a function. Ultimate truth also has two types: that which merely negates true arising, and has not yet been liberated from the elaborations of non-arising, is the ultimate truth of distinctions; and that which is liberated from all elaborations such as arising and non-arising, is the ultimate truth of non-distinctions. As it is said in that very text: The negation of arising, etc., is also considered to be in accordance with truth. The term 'ultimate truth' is applied to that which pacifies all elaborations of arising and ceasing. Thus it is said. Secondly, the characteristics are twofold: the characteristics themselves, and the means of ascertainment. Firstly, the characteristic of truth in general is that any phenomenon is without inherent existence. The characteristic of conventional truth is that any subject cannot withstand rational analysis. The characteristic of ultimate truth is that any phenomenon can withstand rational analysis. Among them, that which is empty of its own essence is without inherent existence. That which can be refuted by ultimate reasoning is called 'cannot withstand analysis'. That which cannot be refuted by any reasoning is called 'can withstand analysis'. Among them, proponents of substantial existence assert that that which can perform a function is the ultimate truth, and therefore do not accept true conventional truth. However, the Madhyamikas assert that there are two types of conventional truth, that is, knowable objects that cannot withstand rational analysis and can perform a function are the characteristic of true conventional truth. Knowable objects that cannot withstand rational analysis and cannot perform a function are false con
