Now, to examine clearly is the superior insight that thoroughly distinguishes meanings. Thus, quiescence and insight follow one mind, so they are combined in union. The six perfections are also complete. The key instructions for all practices are found in the Manifest Realization Treatise, which states: 'Offer flowers, cushions, and so on; restrain places and conduct; abandon harming all sentient beings; pray to the lama; without distraction, hold the lama's instructions; ask about faults in order to dispel thoughts; the lamp has six branches.' Thus it is. The benefits of teaching and listening are: distinguishing dharma from non-dharma, dispelling the darkness of ignorance by knowing what to accept and reject, and progressing on the path to liberation. The teacher Ratna Gupta's 'Collection of Explanations' states: 'Listening is the lamp that dispels the darkness of ignorance; meeting with virtuous people is the best of men; listening is the root that gathers virtuous dharmas; like a hand, it accomplishes all that is needed.' Thus it is. Ratnakara Shanti's 'Praise of Listening' states: 'Listening abandons what is meaningless; listening obtains nirvana; listening causes one to turn away from sin; listening perfectly accomplishes the accumulation of qualities.' Thus it is. The six perfections make wisdom superior, and its cause is listening. Therefore, the Sublime Continuum Treatise states that it is most superior: 'Because giving is the cause of accomplishing enjoyments, morality leads to higher realms, meditation eliminates afflictions, and wisdom eliminates afflictions and objects of knowledge. Therefore, this is the most superior, and its cause is listening.' Thus it is. 'Wisdom is supreme, these four are listening, therefore listening is supreme.' Thus it is. To examine the meaning with correct listening is to never slander the dharma or individuals, because the obscurations are extremely heavy. As it is said, in that very text: 'Slandering the noble ones and despising the dharma they have spoken, all these are afflictions that are increased by ignorant attachment. Therefore, do not associate with those who have the stain of biased views.' Thus it is. Moreover, without the eye of wisdom that sees well, believing in the words of those who slander with biased jealousy regarding the words of definitive meaning, not examining the nature, having wrong views, or merely being jealous and disparaging because of gaining profit, this is even more.

Due to immeasurable obscurations, those who are naturally wise and impartial should not commit such sins even for the sake of life and wealth in this life, because it leads to rebirth in Avici. Even if one commits the five heinous crimes, one can be liberated by contemplating the profound meaning, but it is not so with abandoning the Dharma. As stated in the Ratnagotravibhāga: "Due to inferior intellect and lack of virtuous intention, due to relying on the pride of wrong views, due to being obscured by the poverty of the true Dharma, in order to establish the true meaning, due to greed for gain and being dominated by views, due to relying on those who slander the Dharma, in order to prolong attachment to Dharma and lack of faith, even Arhats abandon the Dharma. Just as the profound Dharma declines, wise people should not be extremely afraid of fire, unbearable snake venom, executioners, and hail. Fire, snakes, enemies, and the fire of vajra only take away life, but abandoning the Dharma does not cause beings to go to extremely terrifying hells like them." "Whoever repeatedly associates with evil friends, harbors malice towards the Buddha, kills parents and Arhats, does what should not be done, and divides the Sangha, if he truly contemplates the nature of Dharma, he will quickly be liberated from it, but if the mind hates the Dharma, how can there be liberation?" Therefore, since the inclinations of sentient beings are diverse, and people and Dharma also appear in various ways, in order to accomplish benefits, one should not falsely accuse any kind of Dharma, saying, "This is a false Dharma, this is a fake Dharma, this is an evil Dharma." Then, like gold that is burned, cut, and polished, examine my words well and accept them, but not out of respect for me. Isn't that what was said? That refers to when one is learning the Dharma for one's own benefit, one should use wisdom to distinguish between right and wrong in the order of words and meanings. It does not mean that one should have doubts about whether other kinds of Dharma are correct or not. In short, all paths that lead to abandoning samsara and striving for nirvana are the Dharma of the Buddha. It does not matter what name is used to call them, so do not hate and abandon them. That is the advice. Whatever is related to meaningful Dharma, and so on, these principles have already been stated before. That is it.
