For the sake of blessing, those are called 'teachings.' As the Aralli says: 'Mountains, pebbles, trees, and branches, Lotuses and wish-fulfilling trees, Also arising from great drums, Because the Victorious One blesses them, Those are called 'teachings.'' Similarly, those Shravakas who speak the Dharma through the power of blessing, and men, women, boys, and girls, etc., who speak the Dharma through the power of great activity, are also included in the teachings. As the Samgraha says: 'Whatever Shravakas of the Victorious One teach the Dharma, And speak with exposition and intelligence, Supreme noble ones who bring happiness and obtain its fruit, All of those are through the power of the Tathagata's being. Why? Because whatever Dharma principles the Victorious One taught, The best of people, having become disciples, first learn, And having realized them, teach as they have learned, It is done through the power of the Buddha, not through the power of their own strength.' Similarly, although the words of the Buddha himself and the words of others may appear mixed in the Sutras and Tantras, those that are established as teachings should be understood by this distinction. The teachings of subsequent permission are as in the Nirvana Sutra: 'Ananda, after my complete Nirvana, when you are compiling, begin with the words, 'Thus have I heard, at one time,' connect with intermediate words, and conclude with 'spoken by the Bhagavan, which is called rejoicing.'' Divided by way of antidotes and synonyms, there are eighty-four thousand collections of Dharma. As the Lamp Illuminating says: 'The Great Sage spoke of eighty-four thousand collections of Dharma.' That is, the Vinaya Pitaka, twenty-one thousand, is the antidote to the twenty-one thousand arising from desire; the Sutra Pitaka and the Abhidharma Pitaka, and the three Pitakas equally, are said to be twenty-one thousand, the antidote to the twenty-one thousand arising from anger, ignorance, and equal parts. As the Teaching of the Inexhaustible Treasure says: 'Desire, anger, ignorance, The three poisons equally practiced, For the antidote of twenty-one thousand, Thus are spoken that many collections of Dharma.' And as the Secret Essence says: 'The antidote to eighty-four thousand afflictions,'

As an antidote, eighty-four thousand teachings were taught, are being taught, and will be taught. Among them, the three pitakas are the respective antidotes to the three poisons, which is the causal vehicle; the equal three pitakas are mantra vidyadharas, which are the antidotes to all the mixed and accumulated three poisons, and the fruition Vajrayana is taught. Thus, the total is eighty-four thousand. In the Tantra of Arrayed Qualities, it says: The outer three pitakas are the antidotes to desire, hatred, and ignorance. The unsurpassed equal mantra is taught as the antidote to all afflictions. All are eighty-four thousand. The aggregates of dharma taught by the Victorious Ones are the antidotes to afflictions. Thus. Among them, the aggregates of dharma are like limbs and branches gathered together and called a body or aggregate, which uproots one affliction from its source, and as a condition for attaining liberation, it is a complete aggregate that shows the differences between the ground, path, and result. Just as when all the medicines of the same category are gathered together as an antidote to one disease, it is called a medicine collection at that time, it should be understood in this way. As it says in the Treasury of Knowledge: For the antidotes to actions, the corresponding aggregates of dharma are taught. And as it says in the Appearance of the Three Realms: In order to destroy afflictions, the aggregates of dharma, are completely determined according to their number. Like this. Here, regarding the measure of the aggregates of dharma, some, such as Kashmiri Yeshe Dorje, consider it to be a thousand shlokas, as it says in the Chapter on Land: The eighty-four thousand aggregates of dharma held by the venerable Kungawo are these three pitakas. If asked, what is the measure of one aggregate of dharma? "One hundred hundreds is one aggregate of dharma," they think. Nagarabhodi and others think that the names and words of any dharma are written on paper or palm leaves as thin as the clothes of the gods, with a part of the tip of the hair without edges, which is difficult for an elephant to overwhelm. Some think that the aggregates, elements, and sources are completely shown. Some think that it is equivalent to the amount of a medium-sized treatise. For example, one section of Abhidharma made by Shariputra, which has four thousand shlokas, is considered to be an aggregate of dharma. Thus it is said, in the Treasury of Knowledge.
