In the meantime, may I also become a source of sustenance. Until I reach the heart of enlightenment, I take refuge in the Buddhas. Likewise, I take refuge in the Dharma and the assembly of Bodhisattvas. Just as the Sugatas (Buddhas) of the past generated the mind of enlightenment, And abide in the training of the Bodhisattvas, in that order, May I also, for the benefit of beings, generate the mind of enlightenment, And train in the training of the Bodhisattvas, in due order. Thus, reciting these three verses three times, one takes the generation of the mind. Now my life is fruitful, I have well obtained this state of human existence. Today I am born into the family of the Buddha, today I have become a son of the Buddha. Now I will certainly undertake actions that are in accordance with my lineage, I will not defile this faultless and noble lineage, I will act in such a way as to keep it pure. Today, in the presence of all the protectors, I invite beings to Buddhahood, And to the happiness in between, may the gods and demigods rejoice. May I, through these virtuous deeds, quickly attain enlightenment in this world, And teach the Dharma for the benefit of beings, liberating sentient beings from many sufferings. These are the seven branches, including taking the generation of the mind. If one prefers brevity, one may offer a vast ocean of offering clouds, or whatever offerings one can afford. Before the prostrations, add the prostrations of praise, so that praise is not necessary during the offering. If it is very brief, it is sufficient to use only the seven branches from the 'Bodhicaryāvatāra', plus the invitation, etc., and taking the generation of the mind as before. In any case, after these preliminaries, one should abide in the true meaning, or the Guru's supplication, or reciting sutras, or offering tormas, or reciting mantras, or praises, etc., practicing as much as one can, and finally. In Indian language: ཨརྱཱ་ཥཊ་མུ་ཁི་ན་མ་དྷཱ་ར་ཎི། (Tibetan); आर्याष्टमुखि नाम धारणि (Sanskrit Devanagari); āryāṣṭamukhi nāma dhāraṇi (Sanskrit Romanization); Holy Eight-Faced Name Dharani (Chinese literal meaning). (The Sutra Called 'The Holy Six Doors') Homage to the Holy Manjushri Kumara! Thus have I heard: At one time, the Bhagavan (Blessed One) was dwelling on the pure terrace of the courtyard, in the middle of the sky, adorned with a variety of seven precious jewels, together with a countless assembly of Bodhisattvas. At that time, the Bhagavan addressed the Bodhisattvas, saying: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sons of good family, for the benefit and happiness of all beings, you should hold this dhāraṇī (Sanskrit: dhāraṇī, a type of Buddhist incantation) called 'Six Doors'. It is as follows: When I wander in samsara, whatever suffering I experience, may I not regard it as a characteristic not shared with all sentient beings. Whatever worldly perfect bliss I experience, may I fully enjoy it in common with all sentient beings. Whatever sinful or unwholesome karmic obscurations I have, may I thoroughly confess them, and not fail to confess them. Whatever demonic activities I have, may I fully know them, and not fail to know them. Whatever roots of virtue I have that are in accordance with the pāramitās, whether worldly or transcendent, may their fruit become unsurpassed wisdom. Whatever liberation I have, may all sentient beings be liberated. May I not abide in samsara or nirvana. Tadyathā. Kṣame kṣame. Kṣānte kṣānte. Dame dame. Dānte dānte. Bhadre bhadre. Subhadre subhadre. Candre candre. Sucandre sucandre. Candra kiraṇe. Candra vati. Tejo vati. Dharma vati. Yaśo vati. Brahma vati. Sons of good family, thus, whether a son of good family or a daughter of good family, if they recite this 'Six Doors' dhāraṇī three times during the day and three times during the night, all their karmic obscurations will be purified, and for seven lifetimes, he/she will be able to remember their past lives. He/she will manifest complete and perfect enlightenment in unsurpassed complete and perfect enlightenment. The Bhagavan rejoiced, and after speaking thus, the Bodhisattvas Mahāsattvas and the sons of the gods of the Pure Abodes were delighted and praised the words spoken by the Bhagavan. The Noble 'Six Doors' Dhāraṇī is complete. Thereafter, with the Noble Conduct of Excellent, the Aspiration of Maitreya, and the Dedication of Vajra Banner, etc., all, or any one of the dedications, dedicate the merit to enlightenment. Also recite auspicious verses. If you wish to recite the dhāraṇī many times, you should first recite this homage: Homage to the World Teacher, the Complete Buddha. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9
