Purify all karmic obscurations and habitual tendencies caused by the three poisons of desire, hatred, and ignorance. May the glorious goddess Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya (Gtsug tor rnam rgyal ma) bless the lineage. This is the water empowerment. Next is the crown empowerment: Thus, by empowering from the crown of the head with the water of the vase, the body is filled, impurities are cleansed, and the residue of the water overflows upwards, with the five Buddha families, led by Vairocana, as the head ornament. Place the Dharma wheel mudra on the crown of the head and recite: 'Oṃ Sarva Tathāgata Cakra Udbhava Abhiṣiñca Hūṃ'. Thus, by obtaining the crown empowerment, with the supreme noble mother's family, the five Buddha families led by Vairocana, as the head ornament, the impure five aggregates of the time of samsara can be transformed, and ultimately the five victorious ones of ultimate truth will quickly manifest, leaving a special habitual tendency that can be transformed. Next is the border: May all the wisdom wrathful deities of the main mandala's retinue wash away all my sins, obscurations, diseases, and evil spirits.' Recite, and at the end of the two short mantras, add: 'May all sins and obscurations be pacified (Śāntiṃ Kuru Svāhā)! May all diseases be pacified! May all evil spirits be pacified! May all plagues be pacified! May all near harms be pacified! May all hatred, shadows, and impurities be pacified! May all curses, witchcraft, and bad luck be pacified! May all dark nights, bonds of time, and messengers of Yama be pacified! May all untimely deaths be pacified! May all obstacles and wrong paths be pacified! May all harm from planets and stars be pacified! May all harm from kings and demons be pacified! May all harm from fierce gods and plagues be pacified! May all harm from nāgas and earth lords, and in short, all unfavorable aspects be pacified, Svāhā!' Thus, cleanse. Next is wiping: In the center of the peacock feather, on top of the moon, the rays of light emanating from the mantra garland surrounding 'bhrūṃ' (seed syllable) draw out and discard all subtle diseases, evil spirits, sins, and obscurations, just as a magnet draws iron filings. At the end of the two short mantras, as above, replace 'Śāntiṃ Kuru' with 'Apānaye'. Next is protection: By placing a vajra cross at each of the seven places of one's own body, emanate countless similar vajras from each vajra. Simply bless the eight substances with 'Om, Mangalam, Ashti Drvya Svaha.' The mirror is the great ocean of wisdom. May the ocean of wisdom be supremely pure, enjoying the pure Dharma without obstruction, may this auspiciousness purify all obscurations. Mustard is the medicine for destroying the three poisons. May this supreme medicine realize the nature of Dharma, eliminating the pain of afflictions, may this auspiciousness pacify the three poisons. Yogurt is the essence of all. May this essence be pure, realizing wisdom, becoming the source of all qualities, may this auspiciousness pacify all diseases. Durva grass increases life. May the life of Vajrasattva be perfectly accomplished, cutting off the stream of afflictions and death, may this auspiciousness increase life. Bilva fruit represents the Dharma of cause, condition, and result. May all actions of the world and beyond become the essence of Bodhicitta, may this auspiciousness accomplish all purposes. The conch proclaims the sounds of the Dharma. May the ocean of wisdom be supremely pure, flawlessly teaching the Dharmas, may this auspiciousness obtain mastery over speech. Red pigment is the nature of power. May it flawlessly gather the Dharmas under control, firmly establishing the kingdom of Dharma, may this auspiciousness stabilize your reign.
