However, generally speaking, from the perspective of base-opposite (gzhi ldog), since there is nothing that is neither non-abiding contradiction (mi gnas 'gal) nor mutually exclusive contradiction (spangs 'gal), it can be considered that they are of the same meaning. Based on this understanding, contradiction and mutually exclusive contradiction are regarded as the same thing with the same extension. If the base (gzhi) and sprout (myu gu) transform into the substance of the sprout, and non-blue is explicitly excluded, then it can be indirectly understood as blue. However, since both of them can be considered the color of the sky, there is no contradiction. Since there is no third possibility of being both made (byas) and permanent (rtag), and not being both, these three are mutually exclusive, similar to other situations. The conceptual consciousness (rtog bcas) that grasps the pillar and the vase is 'other-consciousness' (gzhan rig). Its object is the pillar and the vase. The one who experiences this conceptual thought is 'self-consciousness' (rang rig). Its object is the conceptual consciousness of other-consciousness. According to the view that asserts self-consciousness, what is directly cognized by the self-consciousness on top of the conceptual thought that grasps the pillar and the vase is the conceptual thought itself. Therefore, by directly cognizing the conceptual thought, it can be indirectly recognized that the pillar and the vase are different. According to the view that does not assert self-consciousness, the conceptual thought that grasps the pillar and the vase directly cognizes the pillar and the vase, thereby recognizing the difference between them. The way to recognize through inference (rjes dpag) is: the pillar and the vase, subject (chos can), are different, because they each exist and it is impossible to have a common basis. By relying on such a reasoning statement (rtags sbyor), valid cognition (tshad ma) can directly determine that the pillar and the vase are different. If the substance (rdzas) and universal (spyi) are not distinguished, then if there is a contradiction, it is not necessarily a non-abiding contradiction or a mutually exclusive contradiction, because in general, a contradiction is not necessarily one of the two. For example, if the two are not distinguished, then if there is a contradiction, it is not necessarily one of the two, because neither mutually exclusive contradiction nor non-abiding contradiction is necessarily one of the two. If they are distinguished in this way, then the contradiction must be either a non-abiding contradiction or a mutually exclusive contradiction. That which contradicts the vase and is also the same as abdominal distension cannot have a common basis, therefore that which is the same as abdominal distension contradicts the vase and is a contradiction. That which does not contradict the vase and is also the same as abdominal distension can have abdominal distension as a common basis, therefore that which is the same as abdominal distension does not contradict the vase and is not a contradiction. That which is also a vase and is also the same as abdominal distension can have abdominal distension as a common basis, therefore that which is the same as abdominal distension also does not contradict the vase. These can be analogized to the opposite (ldog pa) of knowable (shes bya), etc. If the base is established, it does not necessarily mean there is a contradiction, such as the opposite of knowable and vase, etc.; if the base is not established, it does not necessarily mean there is no contradiction. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
