Existence and so on are the same as knowable, they are the same entity. Just like a pot and 'non-pot' are the same as knowable. If something is knowable, then it necessarily exists; if something exists, then it is necessarily knowable. This applies to concepts like 'base' (gzhi) and 'established' (grub). If something is different from a pot, then it is necessarily knowable; but if something is knowable, it is not necessarily different from a pot. For example, placing a pot in a place different from a pillar, etc. Generally, things that can be objects of the mind, from the perspective of being real things, are considered 'indicators' (go byed). Knowable and other concepts, only from the perspective of names and terms, are considered 'indicated' (go byar). Being able to be an object of the mind is a definition. What is its definition? It is the definition of 'knowable'. 'Knowable' is the defined. What is the defined? It is what is defined by 'being able to be an object of the mind'. Pillars, pots, etc. are examples. What are examples? They are examples of 'knowable'. These three are the relationship of definition, defined, and example. This applies to things established by valid cognition and existence, etc. Affirmation: If something can be an object of the mind, then it is necessarily knowable. Negation: If something cannot be an object of the mind, then it is necessarily not knowable. Affirmation: If something can be an object of the mind, then it necessarily exists. Negation: If something cannot be an object of the mind, then it necessarily does not exist. Similarly, if something is knowable, then it can necessarily be an object of the mind. The three cases of negation, affirmation, and negation should also be treated in this way. Example of non-pervasion: For example, taking 'having the ability to function' as the definition of 'knowable'. Example of being too broad: For example, taking 'being able to be an object of the mind' as the definition of 'thing'. Impossible example: For example, taking 'momentary' as the definition of 'impermanent'. If 'non-coexistence contradiction' (mi gnas 'gal) and 'exclusion contradiction' (spangs 'gal) are contradictory, then all the characteristics of 'non-coexistence contradiction' must become the characteristics of 'exclusion contradiction'. However, in the reasoning forms of these two, the reasoning form of 'non-coexistence contradiction' is: 'On the eastern mountain, because of the pervasive powerful fire, there is no strong cold sensation, because a strong warm sensation is observed.' The reasoning form of 'exclusion contradiction' is: 'A pot, is impermanent, because it is conditioned.' The former cannot be the reasoning form of the latter, because the former is a reasoning form formed by excluding the opposite, while the latter is only the absence of the opposite. Therefore, the master Tsongkhapa (mkhas grub) said that these two are not the same thing. However, in this document, the view of Tsongkhapa is that 'non-coexistence contradiction' and 'exclusion contradiction' have differences in terms of self-contradiction. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
