That dharma (ཆོས་དེ།), is the characteristic of ultimate truth (དོན་དམ་བདེན་པའི་མཚན་ཉིད།), like a vase. Ultimate truth (དོན་དམ་བདེན་པ།), truly established (བདེན་གྲུབ།), self-characteristic (རང་མཚན།), entity (དངོས་པོ།), etc., have the same meaning. Secondly, that which is not established by conceptualization (རྟོག་པས།), but exists from its own side as an uncommon nature (རང་བཞིན།), is the characteristic of self-characteristic, such as all entities where place, time, and nature are not mixed. For example, if it is like a pillar, the substance of the pillar that touches the east does not touch the west, which is the meaning of place not being mixed; the same pillar in the morning does not exist in the afternoon, which is the meaning of time not being mixed; the nature that the pillar has, the vase does not have, which is the meaning of nature not being mixed. Because the mind that takes its own appearance as an object must realize the dharma by way of the uncommon sign that arises from itself, it is called self-characteristic. Secondly, there are two types: entity and general characteristic (སྤྱི་མཚན།). Firstly, the dharma that is established merely by conceptualization is the characteristic of conventional truth (ཀུན་རྫོབ་བདེན་པ།), such as space. Conventional truth (ཀུན་རྫོབ་བདེན་པ།), falsely established (བརྫུན་པར་གྲུབ་པ།), general characteristic (སྤྱི་མཚན།), non-entity dharma, etc., have the same meaning. Secondly, that which is not the nature of the way things exist established from the object's own side, but is established as a dharma merely by conceptualization, is the characteristic of general characteristic, such as the objects of perception of conceptualizations that grasp place, time, and nature as mixed. For example, in the conceptualization that grasps the eastern and western pillars, it appears that a single general pillar follows, which is the meaning of place appearing mixed; it appears similarly in the conceptualization that grasps the morning and afternoon pillars, which is the meaning of time appearing mixed; it appears similarly in the conceptualization that grasps the clay and gold vases, which is the meaning of nature appearing mixed. Because the mind that takes its own appearance as an object cannot cause its own uncommon sign to arise, but must realize the dharma by way of attending to the general aspect, it is called general characteristic. Secondly, there are three: view, meditation, and conduct. Firstly, the sixteen aspects of the four noble truths (བདེན་བཞིའི་རྣམ་པ་བཅུ་དྲུག) and the selflessness (བདག་མེད།) of phenomena and persons (གང་ཟག་), etc., are the objects, and the wisdom that realizes each of their conditions as they are is the actual view. Among these, the sixteen aspects of the four noble truths are: the contaminated (ཟག་བཅས་) entity that is established from the aspect of being born from its own cause, the truth of the origin (ཀུན་འབྱུང་བདེན་པ།), is the characteristic of the truth of suffering (སྡུག་བསྔལ་བདེན་པ།), such as the form aggregate (གཟུགས་ཕུང་) born from maturation. By imputing the aggregation and combination of persons, and the clinging to truth, etc., it is determined to be the truth of suffering (སྡུག་བདེན།). The truth of suffering (སྡུག་བདེན།), the subject (ཆོས་ཅན།), is knowable. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is impermanent because it arises. Therefore, it is a dharma. You (referring to sentient beings) are suffering because you are under the control of karma and afflictions. Therefore, it is a dharma. You are empty because you lack a self of a person who controls the aggregates. Therefore, it is a dharma. You are selfless because there is no entity of a person-self in the aggregates. From the perspective of karma and afflictions that generate the result of suffering, contaminated things are the characteristics of the truth of origin (Samudaya Satya). Examples include desire in the desire realm and the mental factors that accompany it. Virtuous actions that are not karma and afflictions, as well as the minds and mental factors that correspond to afflictions, the karma of killing that can be confessed through the four powers, and the afflictions in the continuum of those about to generate the Mahayana path of seeing, can all be categorized as the truth of origin. Both karma and afflictions are aspects of the cause because they are the root of the result of suffering. Therefore, they are dharmas. They are aspects of accumulation because they generate suffering at all times and in all ways. Attachment is an aspect of the condition because it nourishes the karma that propels, and thus becomes the co-operative condition for suffering. Both karma and afflictions are aspects of increase because they generate intense suffering, such as the suffering of the Avici hell. The individual cessation attained through the path of no-more-learning, which serves as a means of obtaining self-attainment, and which has abandoned the obscurations of the share, is the characteristic of the truth of cessation (Nirodha Satya). Examples include the abandonment of what is abandoned by the path of seeing and the path of meditation. The separation from abandoning afflictive obscurations is an aspect of cessation because it is the cessation of abandoning suffering. Therefore, it is a dharma. It is an aspect of peace because it is the peace of abandoning afflictions. Therefore, it is a dharma. It is an aspect of excellence because it is liberation that is the nature of benefit and happiness. Therefore, it is a dharma. It is an aspect of definite emergence because it is definitely emerging from samsara without returning. The noble path, which is established from the perspective of the path as a means of obtaining the truth of cessation, is the characteristic of the truth of the path (Marga Satya). An example is the wisdom that directly realizes selflessness. The path of no-more-learning can also be categorized as the truth of the path. The wisdom that directly realizes selflessness is an aspect of the path because it is the unerring path to liberation. Therefore, it is a dharma. It is an aspect of reason because it... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
