Regarding conventional truth, its characteristic is, for example, a pot and cloth. Conventional truth, conventionally established, and nominally existent are synonymous. According to this school, if a basis is established, then it is invariably an entity established, but it does not invariably exist as an entity. This is because, in this school, an existent entity is a phenomenon that, when broken down or separated into parts, cannot relinquish the mind's clinging to self. However, this is impossible for conventional truth. For example, a pot disappears when broken, the conventional truth of shape, and the conventional truth that depends on other parts such as the spout and belly. Water disappears when mentally broken down, the conventional truth of aggregation, and the conventional truth that depends on other substances such as color and smell. The conventional truth of shape pervades the conventional truth of aggregation, because whatever is the conventional truth of shape, there is none that is not the conventional truth of aggregation. The conventional truth of aggregation does not pervade the conventional truth of shape, because earth and water are the conventional truth of aggregation, but not the conventional truth of shape. This is because water is not primarily established in terms of shape and color, but primarily in terms of the tactile particles of eight aggregates that can be perceived by the body consciousness. These eight particles are also separated one by one by the mind, but cannot be separated one by one by breaking them down. Second, the characteristic of ultimate truth is a phenomenon that, when broken down or separated into parts, cannot relinquish the mind's clinging to self. Examples include consciousness without temporal parts, atoms without spatial parts, and unconditioned phenomena. Ultimate truth, ultimately established, and substantially existent are synonymous. According to this school, if a basis is established, then it is invariably established as true, but the establishment of a basis does not invariably mean it is ultimately established. This is because, in this school, ultimate establishment refers to a phenomenon that cannot relinquish its own nature through breaking down. Because some established bases are like this, and some are not. Each individual form and consciousness is an ultimate truth, but the collection and continuum of these two are not considered ultimate truths because they can relinquish their own nature through breaking down. Third, according to the Vaibhashika school, unconditioned phenomena such as space are unconditioned because they are not born from causes and conditions; because they are independent entities, they are entities of self-nature; because they are the objective condition of consciousness, they are objective phenomena; because the same thing that existed before exists later, they are permanent; if they are broken down one by one by the mind, then the mind's clinging to self cannot be relinquished, so they are... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding the understanding of truth, the Sautrantikas (Sūtra followers) hold that without distinguishing between rūpa (form) and rūpaskandha (aggregate of form), they insist on the independence of basic matter. Therefore, rūpaskandha is also considered material. Similarly, shape is also considered a material entity distinct from color. However, those from the Sautrantika school and above believe that unconditioned phenomena such as space are neither inherently entities nor objective conditions of consciousness. Therefore, they are not considered to be real. Skandhas (aggregates) are merely nominal designations based on the substances they rely on, without independent entities. Shape is also merely a nominal designation based on the differences in the arrangement of color substances, and is not considered a substance capable of independent existence. The fourth is about the three aspects of view, meditation, and conduct. First, 'view' refers to the wisdom that realizes the absence of self in a person, etc. Second, 'meditation' refers to single-mindedly practicing these views. Third, 'conduct' refers to practicing these views in conjunction with the accumulation of merit. The ways to accumulate merit are: Bodhisattvas need to accumulate merit for countless great kalpas before the great accumulation path, and then realize it in one sitting from the warm stage of the application path to before the no-learning path. Solitary realizers with rhino-like roots need to accumulate merit for a hundred kalpas before the great accumulation path, and then realize it in one sitting at the warm stage, etc. Hearer-roots need to accumulate merit in the four stages of the learning path, and after attaining the noble path, they still need to study the learning path for up to fourteen lifetimes. The fifth aspect includes the three aspects of base, path, and fruit. First, 'base' refers to all things that should be taken and abandoned, which can be summarized into the Dharma contained in the five bases (skandhas, āyatanas, dhātus, pratītyasamutpāda, satyas). Second, 'path' includes the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment (bodhipākṣika-dharmāḥ) and the three trainings (tri-śikṣā), etc. In order to understand the essence of the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, here is a brief explanation according to the common view of Mahayana. It includes seven parts: four mindfulnesses (catvāri smṛtyupasthānāni), four right abandonments (catvāri prahāṇāni), four legs of magical power (catvāra ṛddhipādāḥ), five faculties (pañcendriyāṇi), five powers (pañca balāni), seven branches of enlightenment (sapta bodhyaṅgāni), and the eightfold noble path (āryāṣṭāṅgamārga). First are the four mindfulnesses, including the following four: First, observing one's own and others' impure bodies, using wisdom to recognize that the body is impure through the thirty-two impurities, etc., and abiding in this through mindfulness. This realization, which is mainly based on hearing, thinking, and meditation, is the mindfulness of the impurity of the body (kāya-aśuci-smṛtyupasthāna).
