首先,关于‘基’,分为‘如何确立基之见’(gzhi'i lta ba gtan la 'bebs tshul)和‘基于此的二谛之建立’(de la brten nas bden gnyis kyi rnam gzhag)两部分。

Because they mainly consider 'reductio ad absurdum' (prasanga) as the method of generating 'ascertainment of realization' (rtogs pa), they are called 'Consequentialists' (thal 'gyur ba). Because they do not engage in detailed examination and analysis, but merely acknowledge that phenomena are appearances arising from conditions, they are called 'Mere Appearance Madhyamikas' (snang tsam pa'i dbu ma pa). Because they do not abide by either extreme of permanence or annihilation, they are called 'Non-abiding Madhyamikas' (rab tu mi gnas pa'i dbu ma pa). The fifth part is divided into three parts: 'Base' (gzhi), 'Path' (lam), and 'Result' (bras bu). First, regarding the 'Base', it is divided into two parts: 'How to Establish the View of the Base' (gzhi'i lta ba gtan la 'bebs tshul) and 'The Establishment of the Two Truths Based on This' (de la brten nas bden gnyis kyi rnam gzhag). First, regarding 'How to Establish the Absence of Self of Phenomena' (chos kyi bdag med gtan la 'bebs tshul), it is divided into three parts: 'How to Establish the Absence of Self of Phenomena' (chos kyi bdag med gtan la 'bebs tshul), 'How to Establish the Absence of Self of Persons' (gang zag gi bdag med gtan la 'bebs tshul), and 'Other Supplementary Explanations' (phros don gzhan bshad pa). First, in general, the Svatantrikas (rang rgyud pa) and others only abandon the afflictive obscurations (nyon sgrib), believing that it is only necessary to realize the coarse absence of self of persons (gang zag gi bdag med phra mo), and that it is not necessary to realize the subtle absence of self of phenomena (chos kyi bdag med phra mo). However, Shantideva (zhi ba lha) said: 'Because the scriptures say that without this path, there is no enlightenment.' (gang phyir lung las lam 'di ni / med par byang chub med par gsungs /) Therefore, the Consequentialist Madhyamikas (dbu ma thal 'gyur ba), based on the scriptures, believe that those who cling to the concept of inherent existence cannot attain liberation, and that without realizing the two subtle absences of self of persons and phenomena, none of the three enlightenments (byang chub gsum po) can be attained. These two absences of self are distinguished only from the perspective of the 'basis of emptiness' (stong gzhi), and there is no distinction from the perspective of what is to be negated. That is, the emptiness of a person established by its own nature is the subtle absence of self of persons; the emptiness of phenomena established by their own nature is the subtle absence of self of phenomena. Therefore, 'established as true' (bden par grub pa), 'established as ultimate' (don dam par grub pa), 'established as real' (yang dag par grub pa), 'established by its own nature' (rang bzhin gyis grub pa), 'established by its own characteristic' (rang mtshan gyis grub pa), 'established by its own essence' (ngo bo nyid kyis grub pa), etc., are all objects to be negated as the self of phenomena (chos bdag). The reasoning for establishing the absence of self of phenomena is: for things that arise, such as a sprout (myu gu), from the perspective of its being established by its own nature, there is no arising from self (bdag las skye ba), no arising from other (gzhan las skye ba), no arising from both (gnyis ka las skye ba), and no arising from no cause (rgyu med las skye ba). This is the 'reasoning of the four extremes of arising and ceasing' (mtha' bzhi skye 'gog gi rigs pa). Similarly, from the perspective of its being established by its own nature, there is no arising from existence (yod par skye ba), no arising from non-existence (med par skye ba), no arising from both existence and non-existence (yod med gnyis kar skye ba), and no arising from neither existence nor non-existence (yod med gnyis gang yang ma yin par skye ba). This is the 'reasoning of arising and ceasing from existence and non-existence' (yod med skye 'gog gi rigs pa). In general, from the perspective of ultimate truth (don dam par), there is no one cause producing one effect, no multiple causes producing one effect, no one cause producing multiple effects, and no multiple causes producing multiple effects. This is the 'reasoning of the four sentences of arising and ceasing' (mu bzhi skye 'gog gi rigs pa). Second, the 'self' (bdag) established by its own nature does not exist in the 'aggregates' (phung), and such a 'self' is different from the 'aggregates'. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
