The definite number of grounds, the fault of wrong views, establishing different negations on one entity, and directly explaining the two truths. First, in the Sutra of the Meeting of Father and Son, it says: 'The Knower of the World, without listening to others, teaches with this very truth. Whatever is conventional is also ultimate; there is never a third truth.' This quote, along with the reasons such as knowledge being either true or false, with no common basis possible, and the logic that there is no knowledge that is neither true nor false, dividing knowledge into two truths is a distinction that eliminates the three errors. Second, in the Explanation of the Intent of the Sutra, the way it is said that there are four faults in considering the two truths to have different entities and the same negation is: if form and the nature of form are different entities, then the pramana ( प्रमाण,pramāṇa,cognition, valid cognition) that realizes the nature of form should not harm the mind that apprehends form as truly established; the emptiness of form should not be the ultimate reality of form; the mere negation of the proliferation of truly established form should not be the nature of form; and the Buddhas and Noble Ones should see form as truly established and see emptiness separately. These are the four faults. If form and the nature of form have the same negation, then just as ordinary beings directly see form, they should also directly see the nature of form; just as attachment and other afflictions arise from focusing on form, attachment and other afflictions should also arise from focusing on the nature of form; just as there is no distinction of different kinds in the nature of form, there should also be no distinction of different kinds in form; and there should be no need to strive for a method to realize the reality of form other than directly seeing form. These are the four faults. Negating such oneness and difference is done through the way of negating with conventional pramana and the way of negating with ultimate pramana. As explained in the Light on the Middle Way, saying that the two truths are neither one nor different refers to true establishment. Third, in the Commentary on the Mind of Enlightenment, it says: 'The ultimate is different from the conventional; it is not the object of the ultimate. The conventional is said to be emptiness; emptiness alone is the conventional. If it does not exist, it will not arise, like the made and the impermanent.' As it is said, the two truths, like the made and the impermanent, have the same entity but different negations. Fourth, regarding the two truths, the ultimate truth and the conventional truth, the direct explanation is as follows: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ་པོ་ལ། མཚན་ཉིད།

Definition: Etymology: Divided into three types. The first is: the conclusion reached by the ultimate analytical wisdom—pramana (量)—is the definition of ultimate truth (paramārtha-satya). For example, a vase is emptiness. This refers to the perspective of a learner. If viewed from the perspective of a non-learner, such as a Buddha, the conclusion reached by the ultimate analytical wisdom transforming into the ultimate analytical wisdom of oneself is its definition. The second is: dharmata (法性) is the conclusion reached by samahita (等持) wisdom, and it is consistent with the appearance, therefore it is called ultimate truth. Generally, the term 'paramārtha' (胜义) has three ways of understanding: one is to understand both 'param' and 'artha' as objects; the second is to understand 'artha' as the object and 'param' as the subject; and the third is to understand both 'param' and 'artha' as the subject. The third is: If divided in detail, there are sixteen emptinesses, such as outer emptiness; if divided in medium, there are four types: the emptiness of things and non-things, and the emptiness of self-nature and other-nature; if divided briefly, there are two types: the selflessness of dharma (法) and the selflessness of pudgala (我). If divided from the perspective of expression, there are two types: subject ultimate and object ultimate. The first type, such as the samahita of noble ones, is the real subject ultimate; such as the conceptual wisdom analyzing emptiness, is the conforming subject ultimate. The second type, such as emptiness, is the real object ultimate; such as the collection of appearance and emptiness, is the conforming object ultimate. Second, conventional truth (saṃvṛti-satya): Definition: Etymology: Divided into three types: definition, etymology, and classification. The first is: the conclusion reached by the pramana (量) of conventional analysis is the definition of conventional truth. For example, a vase. Similarly, if viewed from the perspective of a non-learner, the conclusion reached by the pramana of conventional analysis transforming into the pramana of conventional analysis of oneself is its definition. The second is: for example, a vase is true in the face of consciousness (buddhi) and conventional pramana, therefore it is called conventional truth. Generally, the term 'saṃvṛti' (世俗) has three ways of understanding: one is to understand it as conventional consciousness such as the ignorance (avidyā) of grasping at truth (satya-graha); the second is to understand that emptiness is dependent origination (pratītyasamutpāda); and the third is to understand it as conventional dharmas such as pillars and vases. The third is: divided into correct and incorrect conventional truths. The first is: in the self-manifesting conventional consciousness (vyavahāra-jñāna), things are as they appear, universally recognized in the world, and not reversed in terms of dharma, this is the definition of correct conventional truth. For example, a vase. The second is: in the self-manifesting conventional consciousness, things are as they appear -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ུ་
