I, hold that emptiness is like immutable perfection. Between the two (existence and non-existence), the former is nominally established, while the latter is real. Thirdly, to explain other related topics, including: the difference between imputed and substantial entities; the number of consciousnesses; and the differences in the Mind-Only school's views on whether consciousness is true or false. Firstly, from the perspective of existence and non-existence; from the perspective of substantial and non-substantial entities; and from the perspective of substantial entities that can be self-sufficient and imputed entities that cannot. The first two are imputation and nominal establishment, while the latter is the definition of imputation. Among these, a substantial entity that can be self-sufficient is: a phenomenon that, when cognized, does not need to rely on other phenomena and can appear in the mind on its own. An imputed entity that cannot be self-sufficient is: a phenomenon that is the opposite of this. Therefore, a substantial entity that can be self-sufficient is established according to how it appears in the mind, while a substantial entity that can be self-sufficient refers to an independent nature that does not rely on the bases of imputation of the phenomenon itself, so the two are different. For an imputed entity that cannot be self-sufficient, there is no case where it is not an imputed entity that cannot be self-sufficient. Secondly, regarding the number of consciousnesses: some believe that there is only the ālaya-vijñāna (kun gzhi, Sanskrit: ālayavijñāna, Romanized Sanskrit: ālayavijñāna, literal meaning: all-ground consciousness) or the mind (yid) consciousness, i.e., only one aggregate of consciousness; some believe that there are afflicted mind (nyon yid) and manifest consciousness, i.e., two aggregates of consciousness; some believe that there are six aggregates of consciousness, from eye consciousness to mind consciousness; some believe that there are six consciousnesses and afflicted mind, i.e., seven aggregates of consciousness; some believe that there are six consciousnesses, afflicted mind, and ālaya-vijñāna, i.e., eight aggregates of consciousness; and some add the stainless consciousness that takes Suchness (de bzhin nyid) as its object on top of the eight consciousnesses, i.e., nine aggregates of consciousness. Among these six views, those who believe in eight consciousnesses are the Mind-Only followers of scripture, and those who believe in six consciousnesses are the Mind-Only followers of reasoning. Among these, the afflicted mind is: a primary consciousness that takes the ālaya-vijñāna as its object, grasps 'I' and 'mine', is associated with the five ever-present mental factors (kun 'gro lnga, Sanskrit: manasikāra, Romanized Sanskrit: manasikāra, literal meaning: attention), contact (reg pa, Sanskrit: sparśa, Romanized Sanskrit: sparśa, literal meaning: touch), feeling (tshor ba, Sanskrit: vedanā, Romanized Sanskrit: vedanā, literal meaning: feeling), intention (sems pa, Sanskrit: cetanā, Romanized Sanskrit: cetanā, literal meaning: thought), and attention ( 'du shes, Sanskrit: saṃjñā, Romanized Sanskrit: saṃjñā, literal meaning: discrimination) and the nine mental factors of desire ('dod chags), ignorance (ma rig pa), pride (nga rgyal), and self-view (bdag lta), and whose nature is obscured and unspecified. The ālaya-vijñāna is: whose nature is obscured and unspecified, is associated with the five ever-present mental factors, flows from beginningless time, is the basis for storing all good and bad karmic imprints, takes as its object the four types of imprints, such as manifest imprints, and manifests various phenomena such as the container world and sentient beings, but these phenomena...

is a primary consciousness that cannot ascertain and whose object is unclear. The four habitual imprints of its object are: For the eye consciousness that apprehends blue, the habitual imprint that dominates the appearance of blue as being established by its own characteristics as the basis of attachment is like the habitual imprint of manifestation; the habitual imprint that dominates the view of distinguishing self from others and clinging to self is like the habitual imprint of clinging to self; the habitual imprint of virtuous and non-virtuous actions that propel samsara is like the habitual imprint of the limb of existence; and the habitual imprint that dominates the appearance of blue as blue to the eye consciousness that apprehends blue is like the habitual imprint of the same kind. According to this system, if there is consciousness, it is necessarily pervaded by the four conditions, and habitual imprints are placed on the objective condition of all conceptualizations. For example, for the eye consciousness that apprehends blue, its causal condition is the cause that produces itself, its immediately preceding condition is all the consciousnesses that occurred immediately before it, its objective condition is the object blue, and its dominant condition is the internal sense faculty that is corporeal. As stated by Master Dignāga: 'The power of acting together, whatever its essence, is also the sense faculty. This does not contradict the Mind-Only school.' Thus, in the Mind-Only school's own system, it does not assert that the sense faculty is a corporeal entity, but only considers the power on the preceding consciousness of the immediately preceding condition to generate sense consciousness as the sense faculty. Third, the appearance of colors such as blue, shapes such as squares, and continuous phenomena such as earlier and later moments in manifest cognition are the basis of the debate between the two aspects of truth and falsehood in Mind-Only. The Mind-Only school, which asserts true aspects, believes that although the part of the form-apprehending manifest cognition in the continuum of ordinary beings that appears as external objects is tainted by ignorance, the part where form appears as form and form appears as coarse is not tainted by ignorance at all. The Mind-Only school, which asserts false aspects, believes that not only is the part of the form-apprehending manifest cognition in the continuum of ordinary beings that appears as external objects tainted by ignorance, but also the part where form appears as form and form appears as coarse is tainted by ignorance. Therefore, any Mind-Only proponent who believes that the part of the form-apprehending manifest cognition in the continuum of ordinary beings where form appears as coarse is not tainted by ignorance is a characteristic of the Mind-Only school that asserts true aspects. This can be divided into equal numbers of apprehended and apprehending aspects, half an egg, etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
