Protecting from obstacles with Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese Meaning: Hūṃ), the master touches your three places (forehead, throat, heart) in succession with scented water and vajra, visualizing you as having the body of a peaceful vajra, reciting Hūṃ Āḥ Oṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ་ཨཱཿཨོཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं आः ओ, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ āḥ oṃ, Literal Chinese Meaning: Hūṃ Āḥ Oṃ). Visualize that in the center of the five-pronged vajra at your heart is a blue Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese Meaning: Hūṃ), in the center of the eight-petaled red lotus at your throat is a red Āḥ (Tibetan: ཨཱཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: आः, Sanskrit Romanization: āḥ, Literal Chinese Meaning: Āḥ), and in the center of the eight-spoked wheel at your crown is a white Oṃ (Tibetan: ཨོཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओ, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ, Literal Chinese Meaning: Oṃ), all shining brightly. Recite Hūṃ Āḥ Oṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ་ཨཱཿཨོཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं आः ओ, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ āḥ oṃ, Literal Chinese Meaning: Hūṃ Āḥ Oṃ) for each disciple. Having done this, your body, speech, and mind are blessed from the beginning as the nature of body, speech, and mind, and this ritual makes it possible to recognize and manifest that you abide in the essence of the three vajras. Having generated such bodhicitta and visualized the three doors as deities, it is best to make offerings. Eighth, offering: offer flowers to the crown of the head, visualizing that you are making offerings. The meaning of offering is to enjoy without attachment to desires, through knowing body, speech, and mind as deities. Having thus protected against all adverse conditions and obstacles, and having generated the deity and made offerings, ninth, to examine the signs of favorable conditions and siddhis, first examine by relying on a toothpick: From emptiness, a toothpick of twelve fingers' length arising from Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese Meaning: Hūṃ), with a garland of flowers at its tip, becomes endowed with the power to examine the signs of the siddhis of the vajra disciples. Having blessed it by reciting this, visualize that it is given to you who are holding your palms together, for the sake of examining the signs of siddhis. Recite Oṃ Āḥ Ji Hoḥ Vajra Saṃbādhani Svāhā (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿཛི་ཧོཿབཛྲ་སཾ་བ་དྷ་ནི་སྭཱཧཱཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओँ आः जि होः वज्र संबाधनि स्वाहा, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ āḥ ji hoḥ vajra saṃbādhani svāhā, Literal Chinese Meaning: Oṃ Āḥ Ji Hoḥ Vajra Binding Svāhā). Visualize that the toothpick that has been given is made of precious gold or silver, and use it as if brushing your teeth. As you brush, visualize that just as light emanates from the flower at the tip, it passes through your mouth and into your stomach, thereby causing all the sins from beginningless time and the obscurations that hinder the arising of wisdom to be expelled, just as a skilled doctor expels them with an emetic. Recite Oṃ Vajra Ha Sa Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་བཛྲ་ཧ་ས་ཧཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओँ वज्र ह स हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ vajra ha sa hūṃ, Literal Chinese Meaning: Oṃ Vajra Ha Sa Hūṃ), open your palms, and discard the toothpick without looking at it. Recite 'Discard the toothpick, do not look at it,' and then discard the toothpick in a square area of one cubit's length, smeared with scented water, in which nine maṇḍalas are arranged. If the tip faces oneself, it indicates supreme accomplishment; if it faces upwards, it indicates ḍākinīs; if it faces downwards, it indicates earth-goers; if it faces east, it indicates pacifying; if it faces south, it indicates increasing; if it faces west, it indicates magnetizing. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
