'Completely transcend samsara, in the Akanistha of the form realm, the desireless one will attain Buddhahood.' As it is said, residing in Akanistha, this is the Jambudvipa of the four great continents of the Saha world. In this fortunate kalpa, to conform to the ways of the world, he subdued the armies of Mara with unobstructed means. At dawn, he manifested the attainment of perfect enlightenment, performing countless deeds such as one hundred and twelve and sixteen. Thus, our teacher, considering the intentions, faculties, and habitual tendencies of the disciples to be tamed, spoke of immeasurable aggregates of Dharma. As it is said in the Treasury of Knowledge (Abhidharmakosha): 'To counteract various behaviors, corresponding aggregates of Dharma are taught.' Therefore, there are eighty-four thousand aggregates of Dharma. To counteract attachment, twenty-one thousand sections of the Vinaya Pitaka are taught. To counteract hatred, twenty-one thousand sections of the Sutra Pitaka are taught. To counteract delusion, twenty-one thousand sections of the Abhidhamma Pitaka are taught. To counteract the equal balance of the three poisons, twenty-one thousand sections of the Secret Mantra Pitaka are taught. Among the first three Pitakas, the Secret Mantra Pitaka is particularly superior. As Acharya Kamalashila said in the Lamp on the Three Ways: 'Although the meaning is the same, it is not ignorant. With many methods and no difficulties, relying on sharp faculties, the Mantra Vehicle is particularly superior.' This means that the Dharmadhatu to be realized, the ultimate truth of reality, is free from elaboration. This one suchness, if not realized, one will not attain liberation. This is agreed upon by both Sutra and Tantra. The result to be obtained, Buddhahood, is also the same. Attaining Buddhahood at the ultimate point of abandonment and realization is also agreed upon by both Sutra and Tantra. If the result to be obtained is Buddhahood, then it contradicts the aforementioned differences in abandonment and realization. There is no fault in this, just as the three vehicles have the same nature of Bodhi, but each has differences in abandonment and realization. The means of attainment, the mind of Bodhichitta, is also the same. The aspiration to attain the state of perfect Buddhahood for the benefit of others, in relative Bodhichitta, is the same for both Sutra and Tantra. This is because it relies on the sameness of the meaning to be realized. However, the way in which the means of arising in the continuum of a person is particularly superior is that before the first Bhumi of the Paramitas is attained... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Enlightenment can only be attained through understanding the general meaning of Dharmata (ཆོས་ཉིད།, the nature of reality). In Vajrayana, during the third empowerment of wisdom initiation and other occasions, when wisdom arises, the realization of exemplary wisdom (which symbolizes the actual wisdom that is free from elaboration) is the first distinguished Dharma. In Paramita (ཕ་རོལ་ཏུ་ཕྱིན་པ།, Perfection Vehicle), there are also many methods, such as accomplishing common siddhis (དངོས་གྲུབ།, accomplishments) like pacifying and increasing, and methods for accomplishing supreme siddhis like the generation and completion stages to realize the profound ultimate truth and the vast conventional truth. This is the second distinguished Dharma. Compared to the need to give up one's head, hands, and feet in Paramita, Vajrayana practitioners can achieve enlightenment through blissful practices. This is the third distinguished Dharma. In Paramita, it takes countless eons for individuals with sharp faculties, thirty-six countless eons for those with medium faculties, and inconceivable countless eons for those with inferior faculties to achieve the result. In Vajrayana, it is said that individuals with sharp faculties can achieve it in this very life, those with medium faculties at the time of death or in the bardo (བར་དོ།, intermediate state), those with inferior faculties in seven lifetimes, and even the most inferior in sixteen lifetimes. This is the fourth distinguished Dharma. The names of such distinguished Vajrayana are as follows: In the Glorious Guhyasamaja (དཔལ་གསང་བ་འདུས་པ།, Glorious Assembly of Secrets), it is said: 'Desire, hatred, and ignorance delight in the Vajra and always abide. Therefore, it is said to be the method of the Buddhas, the Vajrayana.' The meaning is: Vajra is indestructible and unbreakable, hence it is great, and it itself is the Mahayana (ཐེག་པ་ཆེན་པོ།, Great Vehicle), hence it is called Vajrayana, which is the way of mantra. Among the meanings of these names, the meaning of 'mantra' is: In the Vajrasekhara Sutra (རྡོ་རྗེ་རྩེ་མོ།, Diamond Peak Sutra), it is said: 'The nature of all mantras is the mind of all Buddhas, the essence of Dharma, which accomplishes all things and is perfectly in accordance with the Dharmadhatu (ཆོས་ཀྱི་དབྱིངས།, the realm of Dharma). This is said to be the nature of mantra.' Therefore, the non-dual wisdom of all Buddhas is called mantra, and the deities are also called mantra, and calling the names of the deities is also called mantra. And 'Dharani mantra' (གཟུངས་སྔགས།, retention mantra) is: Again, in that sutra, it is said: 'It holds the Buddha's teachings, it holds all dharmas, it holds virtuous dharmas, this is called the nature of Dharani mantra.' Therefore, it is mainly called Dharani mantra from the perspective of holding virtues. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
