Previously accumulated sins are purified. Secondly, the power of virtuous deeds is enhanced. Thirdly, the door to many merits is opened. It cuts off the obstacles of practitioners. It quenches thirst in the water. All paths are cut off by it. The ultimate need is accomplished by it, it comes as a friend to escort. In the past, accomplished ones transformed faults, obstacles, and adverse conditions into sources of merit. Realization dawned, and accomplishments were attained, therefore, one should rejoice. Distraction is when wisdom is wild and cannot be grasped by memory, then suddenly remember and let go. Appear urgently and stare. Remember vaguely and abandon far away. Suddenly arise, then abruptly put down and let go. This will cut off distraction. If that doesn't cut it off, let wisdom continue to wander. Let it go wherever it goes. Once released, it will return because the place it goes is bad. For example, it's like pulling a horse with reins, pulling too tight will startle the horse and it cannot be controlled. Letting go is like the horse stopping. After letting go, if the body remains immersed in a state of neither happiness nor clarity, then cut off the root of the mind's sinking. Observe its essence. Let it go, abide in its own nature. Relax and abide. By doing so, lethargy will be liberated and depart. In the "Collection of Teachings" it says: Do not cut off the arising feelings, thoughts, and concepts. Like lightning flashing in the sky and naturally disappearing. Even if thoughts and concepts arise, they will disappear in the same way. Like a bird flying out of a puddle in the ocean. Thus it is said. With immeasurable devotion and great compassion, transform adverse conditions into the support for all merits. It means that if merit does not arise from practicing the path, then one should enhance its power. There are three ways to do this: upward, pray to the Lama to enhance power; downward, cultivate compassion for sentient beings to enhance power; and in the middle, enhance power by transforming strong adverse conditions into support. First, even if you do virtuous deeds and strive in practice, if merit does not arise in the mindstream, it is a sign that the Lama's blessings have not entered. Therefore, to receive blessings, you must pray. When praying and generating devotion, you must remember kindness and merit. Thinking about merit means that the emanations of the Lama's body, the activities of speech, the wisdom of mind, and so on, are no different from the Buddha, and their essence is the Buddha himself. All the activities of all the Buddhas are done by the Lama. In the Vajra Tent Tantra it says: Because it is Vajrasattva, therefore it is the teacher.

Manifesting a physical body, in order to benefit sentient beings, they appear in the form of ordinary people. Thus it is said. Even so, one does not see the adornment of the body with marks and signs, nor does one hear the voice like that of Brahma, this is because our own obscurations have not been purified. For example, a person with jaundice tastes sweetness as bitter, and a person with eye disease sees a conch shell as yellow. Thinking of the kindness of the Guru: The kindness is greater than that of the Buddhas, even though all the Buddhas of the three times have come, they have not appeared to me in common. Countless supports that have been molded, painted, and sculpted remain, but they do not directly teach me the Dharma. The Guru explains the ripening of good and evil, shows the meaning of cause and effect, and introduces the wisdom that resides within oneself, therefore the Guru is very kind to me. Therefore, visualize the root Guru at the crown of the head. Around that, visualize the lineage Gurus and all the Gurus with whom one has a Dharma connection. There, dissolve all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions and three times, the Yidam deity assembly, heroes, heroines, and Dakinis, and pray not just with words, but with intense longing from the center of the heart, the inside of the legs, and the depths of the bones. Pray for the pacification of obstacles and adverse conditions, may great compassion be known. Bless the increase of progress and wisdom, and request the accomplishment of perfect abilities and qualities. After that, dissolve the Guru into oneself, and visualize the Guru's mind and one's own mind as clear and empty, without grasping, inseparable in bliss and emptiness, and mixed together like water and milk in the state of appearance and emptiness inseparable. Rest relaxed in the state of effortless great bliss. Having done this, whatever one practices will be successful. Furthermore, the method of increasing compassion for sentient beings is: In general, all sentient beings of the three realms, especially those sentient beings who are mainly enemies who hate me and obstructors who harm me, are truly pitiable. First, there is not one who has not been my father and mother, and when they were my parents, they bestowed kindness on me, removed harm, and had great kindness, so they are truly pitiable. Second, they are separated from all protectors and saviors, and have wandered endlessly in samsara in the past, and will still have to wander endlessly in samsara, so they are truly pitiable. Third, they are blind.
