Because one has not realized oneself. Although anger can be liberated by the action of manifest conduct, if it is not grasped by emptiness, it will accumulate ripening results, because it is not liberated into the realm of emptiness. Although delusion can grasp dreams, and can purify and increase them, if the nature of reality does not become clear light, it will accumulate the ripening results of habitual confusion, because dreams themselves are confusion. The sutra says: 'Those who have minds attached to samsara constantly wander.' 'They do not truly realize the nature of self and what belongs to self.' Nagarjuna says: 'For whom emptiness is not possible, for him everything is not possible.' Therefore, destroying afflictions with emptiness is: which of your own five poisons is the heaviest, which is the most difficult to abandon, thus becoming a thorn of meditation, an obstacle to virtuous conduct, then in clear attainment, let it be even greater than before. Let it be coarsely, let it be thoroughly, let it burn like fire, let it flood like water, let it rise like wind, let it be stable like earth, meditate on it as invincible, and then stare at its essence, no need to empty it, it is already empty. Throw it away on top of that, and it will become non-existent. Relax and rest in that state, and it will go to self-peace and self-liberation. For example, it is like using poison to counteract poison, or using an enemy to destroy an enemy. The tantra says: 'Desire binds the world, by desire itself one purifies existence.' The 'Collection of Teachings' says: 'Burning with fire is fumigated with fire, like cutting blood and cauterizing wounds, again use the key point of suppressing wrong conduct, load all the conditions into a burden.' So on and so forth. Transforming the means into the path is: the mother to be relied upon has the characteristics, the father to be relied upon has the qualities, the means of reliance has the key points, thus relying on it, transform desire into bliss-emptiness, let the contaminated appear as uncontaminated, let attachment appear as the nature of reality. All that is said in the tantras to be relied upon refers to these. Offering with thought is: if it can be overcome with antidotes, that is best. If not, do not choose high or low places, give the body to all lepers, beggars, evil people, and blind people, at the time of union, visualize the mandala of the deity, make offerings to the upper ones, visualize the lower ones as guests, meditate on accumulating one's own merit and purifying obscurations, and then enjoy.

From the Kalachakra: Horses and cattle increase merit a thousandfold. Sons and wives increase it a millionfold. Giving of the body increases it a billionfold. Giving of the Dharma comes in countless ways. Thus it is said. Similarly, regarding hatred, one needs to possess six distinctions of the object to be subdued: the distinction of the subduer is to be possessed of emptiness and compassion; the distinction of the method of subduing is that the practitioner obtains uncommon siddhis; the one to be subdued must be one who will be born in a Buddha-field. Therefore, merely making sentient beings happy in the short term is not beneficial; rather, one should benefit sentient beings in the long term. From the Treasury of the Earth: Benefits and happiness should be done. Even if it is suffering, whatever is beneficial should be done. Happiness that is not beneficial should not be done. Thus it is said. The net of existence, the ocean of afflictions without end, completely destroyed, the supreme measure of the equal taste of wisdom. This means that the measure of cutting off afflictions is: the best is when afflictions, together with their habitual seeds, are transformed into wisdom; the intermediate is when latent habits are pacified; the lowest is when gross manifest activities are abandoned; and even the very lowest is when one is not harmed by afflictions, or when afflictions become weaker, or when, even if afflictions arise, they are easily suppressed by antidotes, or when the mind and the antidote are not controlled by afflictions. From the treatise: The fruit of listening is peace and gentleness. The sign of meditation is that afflictions are diminished. Thus it is said. Understanding the meaning of faith and compassion, possessing the key points of the instructions, yogis practice it as a method for attaining liberation. Thus it is said. The demon of sickness and suffering should be cut off by a person who possesses four qualities: having faith in the Dharma, transforming sickness and suffering into the path; with love and compassion, being able to take on the suffering of others; with the key points of the instructions, knowing how to purify sickness and suffering; and with the realization of dharmata, knowing the emptiness of sickness and suffering. Such a person can cut off the demon. Sickness and suffering, virulent poisons, are the demons of all. Not realizing it, it steals the life of attaining liberation. This means that when one strongly experiences physical sickness and mental suffering, not realizing dharmata and not seeing the meaning of mind itself, this is the demon of all. Because it temporarily steals the life of the body and ultimately steals the life of liberation, this demon must be cut off. Happiness and suffering
