Therefore, if you cultivate in this way, merit will naturally arise, just as we protect ourselves. It is not enough to just understand; you must make it a habit. When you are familiar and stable, then abide in that state. Make it vast and long-lasting, and make the appearances clear. You must gain confidence in removing obstacles and increasing merit. At that time, whatever arises in the mind, whatever is thought, whatever appears, does not go beyond emptiness. Whether you are satisfied or not, whatever happens, you must make a decision in your own mind. Decide that the mind has no birth or death. Decide that unborn is the Dharmakaya. Decide that the Dharmakaya is without characteristics. Whether you remember or not, it does not go beyond emptiness. Whether you are satisfied or not, whether you are distracted or not, whatever you think, whatever appears, is emptiness. Wherever a bird flies, it does not go beyond the sky. Wherever a fish jumps, it does not go beyond the water. Whatever appears in the mind of a yogi, abide in the state of thinking that it does not go beyond emptiness. Do not chase after thoughts when they arise, do not gather them, do not grasp them, do not let them go, do not practice them, do not negate them. Abide in the state of self-extinguishing and self-liberation. The Hundred Thousand Verses says that thoughts are neither bound nor liberated. So it is said. Regarding the wrong suppression of meditation: When meditating, do not remember good or bad, pleasure or pain, samsara or nirvana, but abide in a state of non-thought. Release without grasping. Completely destroy and release in non-duality. Without hope or fear, without calculation, wherever you go is fine. If you do not understand that appearances are without support, no matter what you do, it is a cause of bondage. If you understand that it is without support, you do not need to negate appearances. Know that there is no truth. Know that it is without support. If you realize that there is no truth, it is enough to abide without attachment. You do not need to practice emptiness; it is enough to abide in your own nature. If you abide in this way, even if you do not practice emptiness, it will be accomplished. Thoughts will naturally cease. Even if appearances do not cease, if there is no attachment to truth, you will not create the karma of desire and hatred. You will not be defiled by bad habits. You will not be born involuntarily in samsara. Like the roots of a poisonous tree that have rotted, or a corpse in a cemetery, or a pillar in a temple, even if there are senses, they cannot cause harm. From the mouth of the Mother: Grasping is a demon. Effort is a disease. Doubt is a ghost. Abiding is the basis. Non-action is the path. Non-achievement is the fruit. All appearances are companions. Buddha is the mind. The nature of mind is the sky. So it is said.

So! Such a view and meditation are not enough to be understood only in the realm of the mind. When encountering strong conditions, the mind will return to its ordinary state. Therefore, when conditions arise, one must immediately apply them and blend the mind with the Dharma. Merely blending is not enough. If one practices diligently, stainless qualities will arise without obstruction. Therefore, one must encounter various conditions and practice skills without obstruction. The suppression of behavior is: At that time, if fear, dread, shame, disgust, etc., arise, or if one feels unable, unwilling, or uncomfortable, one should sharpen awareness from the perspective of view and abandon suffering on the basis of suffering. If one feels fear, shame, or disgust, one should abandon disgust on the basis of disgust. One should treat what one cannot endure with a comfortable attitude. Blend with conditions, break the rules, abandon pretense, break away from the crowd, and experience it. If you feel afraid, shy, or unable, look at where the teacher of inability and his residence are located. Look at what the shape and color are like. Look at where the reason for inability lies. Pursue the inability to its source, using pure awareness to pursue it. Using the old woman as a guide, thoroughly investigate the root of what is difficult to cut off, destroy the false foundation, and thoroughly cleanse it, so that it disappears without support, collapses without truth, and vanishes without substance. This is the key to destroying the false roots of samsara, the key to cutting off conceptual thoughts, the method of cutting, the teaching that distinguishes between samsara and nirvana, and the secret to suppressing conceptual thoughts. In the Collection of Teachings, it says: The yogi who combines view and conduct is like a hero holding a sword in his hand, destroying all enemy forces, destroying all demons without pride in the Dharma realm. Just as the heat of the sun destroys moisture and darkness, wisdom arises, gradually surpassing faults, and experiencing the stages of the path. Regarding the degree of completion here, there are two types: temporary completion and ultimate completion. The first is temporary, and the eight worldly dharmas such as attachment and aversion will become weak. No matter what subtle or coarse conceptual thoughts arise, they cannot harm. No matter what adverse conditions arise, they will become aids to practice. The perception of true clinging to appearances will be transformed, and good experiences and realizations that have never existed before will arise. Immeasurable compassion will arise for sentient beings who have not realized.
