Through the blessing of truth, may the gods and demons regret their attempts to create obstacles. Secondly, by cultivating compassion, may the minds of the gods and demons develop the perception of the gods and demons as their children. Thirdly, by offering the body through samadhi, may the minds of the gods and demons be satisfied and depart. Fourthly, when a yogi who has realized the view acts in this way from within emptiness, may the gods and demons turn away from their attachment to the reality of clinging to things as real. Fifthly, by making aspirations, through that blessing, may the minds of the gods and demons be liberated from thoughts of attachment, aversion, and affliction, and depart. Previously, when Jetsun Milarepa was obstructed by the eighteen great demons, led by Tashi Tseringma, Jetsun offered his body. Because he was filled with the fearless confidence of the view, the obstacles were pacified and those demons were subdued. When the son, Gyalwa Döndrup, was cursed by many Bonpos, the son slept under the Bonpo's torma altar. The curse could not take effect and instead returned. There are many such examples. Furthermore, if you do this to one class of gods and demons, they cannot bear it and will either respectfully prostrate or display miracles, such as weeping, wailing, shouting, screaming, making loud, evil noises, showing various forms, etc. Whether it occurs in reality or in experience or dreams, whatever happens, it is sufficient to place it on the path of practice. Do not cling to it as real, but know it to be like a dream, like an illusion, as it says in the sutra: Even though you see them displaying various miracles, they have no body, no mind, and no name. Whatever arises in experience, appearance, or dreams, it does not go beyond illusion. Even if the sky collapses from above, the ocean overflows from below, the mountain crumbles from behind, and the cliff collapses from in front, keep your mind on the nature of reality. All of that will go to self-liberation. Even if a dog chases you from behind, someone beats you from the front, and Tsen and demons stand on your left and right with weapons in hand, relax your mind in a state of fearlessness, and all of that will dissolve on its own. A black, nine-headed demon rides on the back of your neck, cuts off your head, tears out your heart, and is about to kill you right now, throwing down chunks of flesh and drops of blood.

Even if they say, settle your mind in emptiness, how can they kill you? They cannot even insert a fingernail. Even if they say they will set up a pyre, sharpen a knife, set up a cauldron, kill you, butcher you, and cook you in this cauldron, remain empty and hollow in the state of non-existence of awareness, and no one will be able to strike even a needle. Even if a huge black man spreads a rope on the ground, puts a noose around your neck, and says he will tie you up and carry you away, remain relaxed in a fearless state of mind, and no one will be able to carry you even a step. In short, no matter what obstacles or illusions arise, pray to me for protection, pray to me for refuge, rather than praying a hundred times, it is better to take it, eat it, carry it away. It is better to let a thousand gods and demons eat than to bring down a hundred guardian deities on the target. Rather than wearing a hundred amulets on the body, it is better to have a single word of 'happy to live, happy to die' arise in the mind. The army of demons, the messengers of Yama, holding weapons, surrounded by billions from all directions, even if they say that the curse of the demons falls on you, the fierce calamity falls on you, the food of Yama falls on you, let the mind be without foundation and rootless, and remain empty. From the army of demons and Yama, even if there are billions of trillions, not even a single speck of dust exists, not even a trace remains. Even if you think that they cannot eat the offerings themselves, do not have such confidence, because in reality, all of this is not truly established. It is the illusion of the mind, the creation of the mind, the manifestation of conceptual thoughts, the skillful fabrication of awareness, like a painting in the sky, the moon in the water, the water of a mirage, there is no difference, it appears but cannot fulfill its function. Do not take all of this as real, do not doubt, do not speculate. In the past, who was struck by a rabbit's horn? Who was killed by the son of a barren woman? Who was harmed by a magical person? Who was carried away by the water of a mirage? Who was bitten by a lion made of clay? In the gatehouse of the temple, the black Mahakala sits day and night holding a stick, who has he struck? All of this cannot be true. The wise person who understands this way cannot be harmed by the assembly of demons. As the sutra says: 'All sentient beings in fields as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, if they are all regarded as demons, not even a single hair can be moved.'
