Such is the nature of non-existence. Non-perception of existence or non-existence, free from dependence. Thus it is said. From the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: Afflictions do not reside in objects, do not reside in directions, are not in the senses, etc., nor are they in between those. Thus it is said. In this thing that is empty from the beginning, What is there to gain? What is there to lose? What is there to dislike? What is there to like? Since everything is like the sky, May I and others completely grasp it. Thus it is said. Secondly, if it is grasped by skillful means, it is a companion on the path, so it should not be abandoned. The five afflictions are the nature of the five wisdoms. When that is practiced with oral instructions, it becomes a quick path. From the Ocean: The path of afflictions is great purification. The desire for skillful means is the supreme ornament. By playing with everything, everything, Quickly transform into the glorious Heruka. Thus it is said. This principle is also taught in the sutras. From the Ratnakūṭa Sutra: Just as the impure filth of cities Is beneficial to sugarcane fields, So too, the filth of afflictions of a Bodhisattva Is beneficial to the field of the Victor's Dharma. Thus it is said. From the Abhidharmasamuccaya: For those who possess great skillful means, Afflictions transform into limbs of enlightenment. Thus it is said. Furthermore, if there are no afflictions to be abandoned, then the antidote that abandons them will not arise, so it is not appropriate to abandon them. If there is a nature of afflictions, then that nature itself has the nature of emptiness, so it should not be abandoned in order to manifest the nature of reality. Because relying on afflictions becomes a limb for accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings, it should not be abandoned. If afflictions are not abandoned, then qualities will not arise and Buddhahood will not be attained? However, the qualities of the path and the result are obtained only from the cause of afflictions, because it is wisdom and because it is practiced. Does it not transmigrate to the lower realms and become a bond? If one knows the nature of afflictions and practices them, then one will not be stained by their faults, and one will only hold the body and fruit of the happy realms. Some say that when afflictions are made into the path, do they need to be grasped by skillful means or not? If they need to be, then afflictions are not made into the path, because skillful means are made into the path. If they do not need to be, then what is the difference between an ordinary person and a superior one?

If it is said that there is no fault, it is said that one wants to make zanba (roasted barley flour) from barley, but if it is roasted and ground, the barley will not become zanba, because it is zanba made of flour, and if it is not made, it will not become zanba. How should this be answered? That is because barley is the raw material, and it becomes zanba through the conditions of roasting and grinding. Here, too, afflictions are the raw material, and they become the path only through expedient means as conditions. Thus, for one thing of affliction, the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas see it as something to be abandoned, the Bodhisattvas see it as something to be used, the common Mantrayana sees it as something to be purified, and the uncommon sees it as something to be taken. For example, one nature made of gold, when made into a copper ladle, is dirty, when made into a container, it is clean, when made into a ring, it is an ornament, and when made into a statue of a deity, it is an object of offering. Due to conditions, each vehicle sees it that way, but the essence is originally pure wisdom. In the Dharma of the base, path, and fruit, the afflictions themselves will transform, so there is a reason why they should not be abandoned. The third reason is that because they are body and wisdom, they are not abandoned. In the twenty-eighth vow, it says: The five afflictions, such as jealousy, are originally the nature of the five families. Therefore, the wisdom of the nature of ignorance dharmadhatu is the Tathagata family, which is the vow of Vairochana. The mirror-like wisdom of hatred is the Vajra family, which is the vow of Akshobhya. The wisdom of pride equality is the Ratna family, which is the vow of Ratnasambhava. The wisdom of desire discrimination is the Padma family, which is the vow of Amitabha. The wisdom of jealousy accomplishment is the Karma family, which is the vow of Amoghasiddhi. Therefore, the five afflictions that appear in the minds of beings are already body and wisdom from the time they appear, so we are taught not to abandon them. Second, the five vows to accept are the five amritas, which are also accepted because they are originally the play of the nature of Dharma without acceptance or rejection. In the "Lelak", it says: Amrita is originally pure Dharma, without acceptance or rejection, transcending all. In the original great protective vow.
