And, contemplate that the anger and pain in your heart have no inherent nature, characteristics, shape, or color. As it is said in the "Bodhicharyavatara": "From the very nature of unbornness, what is there to be displeased with, what to be pleased with? What is there to gain, what to lose? We should understand all phenomena to be like the sky, without anything at all." In short, whatever you do day and night, it is solely to tame your own mindstream, not harming others, with afflictions naturally subsiding and virtuous deeds naturally increasing, which is called studying the Buddha's teachings. Nagarjuna said: "You should tame your own mind, as the Bhagavan said, the mind is the root of all dharmas." Also, as it is said in the Pratimoksha Sutra: "Do no evil, cultivate all good, tame your own mind, this is the teaching of the Buddhas." Now, to present the rationale for these points, first, because benefiting others is difficult to accomplish, it is advised not to lose sight of benefiting oneself. Nowadays, beings in this degenerate age are unruly, so it is extremely important to accomplish one's own benefit in solitude. Just as one cannot fly without fully developed wings, one cannot benefit others without clairvoyance. Therefore, one should focus on benefiting oneself and think of benefiting others with one's mind. This distraction and commotion is the deception of Mara, it is crucial not to let one's mind be deceived and to strive in practice, lest one be tormented by regret at the time of death. Nowadays, even if the Buddha were to appear, he would not be able to tame them. Although we have only a little intention to benefit others, the time for those to be tamed has not yet come. We do not possess clairvoyance or miraculous powers, nor can we subdue with force. Therefore, abandon this advice that others do not listen to, and urge them to practice single-pointedly in the good forests of solitude. This life has already been deceived by the distractions and deceptions of Mara, that is enough! Now, from the depths of your heart, you must go alone to a solitary place, because at the time of death you will surely be tormented by regret. Therefore, strive to accomplish your own benefit, for the time to benefit others with your mind has come. Shantideva also said: "The desires of sentient beings are diverse, even the Buddhas cannot satisfy them, what need is there to mention ordinary people like me?" Thus it is. Even if one begins to accomplish one's own benefit, it is difficult to gain a firm foundation, so it is also necessary to strive with exhortation. Therefore, now you should whip your mind with diligence, now you should die.
