Moreover, formations and consciousness, that is, one's own five aggregates of close grasping, are also suffering because they are the place, basis, and source of suffering. For example, even if a thorn pricks, there is a stinging pain in the form body, feeling is knowing that stinging pain in the mind, the pain itself is recognized as a momentary continuum, or formations acting as an intermediary, consciousness of the thorn's prick. No matter what sickness occurs in the body or what suffering occurs in the mind, it can only arise on these five aggregates. Therefore, in order to attain the wisdom of the noble ones, which does not possess the contaminated aggregates of close grasping that are part of the truth of suffering, one must practice with the complete three aspects of preparation, main practice, and conclusion. Instruction Verse Thirty-Five. Then, the suffering of the Asuras is that they cannot bear the glory of the gods, so they are always jealous, and they are greatly tormented by warfare. Because their respective abodes are divided and harmed, the great stinging pain of body and mind being disturbed, like hail of quarrels and strife, constantly torments them. Now, thinking that one must practice the peaceful and supreme Dharma, one practices with the complete three aspects of preparation, main practice, and conclusion. Instruction Verse Thirty-Six. Then, the suffering of the gods is that although they are temporarily happy in the realm of the desire gods, at the time of death and transference, their previous virtuous karma is exhausted, and they know through clairvoyance that the result of non-virtuous karma will be rebirth in the lower realms. The intense suffering, greater than measuring with fish powder, the gods must experience for seven days. In the form and formless realms, although they temporarily enjoy the bliss of samadhi, again their good karma is exhausted, and the suffering of falling into the lower realms of existence due to the power of negative karma is caused by formations. Because the continuum of aggregates changes, and they experience the suffering of formations. Now, thinking that one must attain liberation from the three realms and six classes of beings, one practices with the complete three aspects of preparation, main practice, and conclusion. Instruction Verse Thirty-Seven. Then, considering the present situation, just as now one has obtained a human body with leisure and endowments, and one has autonomy. Even the suffering of being struck by a spark of fire on the body is unbearable. Even the slightest suffering of being cold, hungry, thirsty, or tired is unbearable, so after death, the heat and cold of hell, the hunger and thirst of the pretas.

How can one endure the intense and prolonged suffering of using animals and so on? Even the daily illnesses and sufferings are unbearable now. How can one endure the suffering of endless samsara? One should practice in this way, completing the three aspects of preliminary, main practice, and subsequent practice, and thus engage in practice. Thirty-eighth Step of Guidance. The fourth meaning is to contemplate cause and effect, divided into three: non-virtuous actions, virtuous actions, and contemplating everything as the nature of karma. First, the three physical non-virtuous actions of the ten non-virtuous actions: One who takes life, wherever they are born, will have a short life and many illnesses. Their land will be unpleasant, with dangerous ravines and cliffs, places that interrupt life, and they will experience the suffering of the three lower realms, and so on. One who takes what is not given will be poor and destitute, living in a bad land threatened by hail, frost, and famine, and will be reborn in the realm of pretas, especially among the three lower realms, and so on. One who engages in sexual misconduct will have an unhappy family, be surrounded by enemies, and live in a place full of heat, filth, and foul odors. Therefore, to experience the suffering of the lower realms, I must abandon the three physical non-virtuous actions from now on. One should practice in this way, completing the three aspects of preliminary, main practice, and subsequent practice, and thus engage in practice. Thirty-ninth Step of Guidance. Then, the four verbal actions: One who lies will be slandered and constantly deceived by others. One who sows discord will have unfriendly companions, and even those who are helped will turn into enemies. One who speaks harshly will only hear unpleasant words and will turn into words of conflict. One who engages in idle talk will have disrespectful and scattered words. They will inevitably fall into the state of evil destinies and experience suffering. I must abandon them. One should practice in this way, completing the three aspects of preliminary, main practice, and subsequent practice, and thus engage in practice. Fortieth Step of Guidance. Then, the three mental actions: One who is filled with covetousness will not achieve what they desire, and what they do not desire will fall upon them. One who has harmful thoughts will always be afraid, full of fear of harm, and feel uneasy. One who has wrong views will hold evil views without cause and effect, and will dwell in the evil body of permanence and annihilation. Therefore, they will be tormented by the suffering of samsara in the lower realms. I should abandon them. One should practice in this way, completing the three aspects of preliminary, main practice, and subsequent practice, and thus engage in practice. Forty-first Step of Guidance. Then, virtuous actions are divided into two: actions that accord with merit and actions that accord with liberation.
