The suffering of suffering is like sores on leprosy, and the kinds of sickness, fever, and unwanted things, one not healed and another stacked on top of it. The suffering of change is like dancing after taking a bride, and the house collapses and suffers losses. Like this, happiness itself immediately turns into suffering and torment. The suffering of conditioning is like eating poison or causing harm to others, and later suffering arises, so it is painful and unhappy. Like these kinds of suffering, we must now be liberated from them, thinking like this, practice with the three perfections of preparation, main practice, and subsequent practice. Thirty Verses of Instructions. Then, contemplate the four rivers of birth, aging, sickness, and death. First, in the intermediate state, the scent-eater approaches, and the father's and mother's sperm and blood mix. In seven sets of seven days, the body forms from a blur to softness, etc. Then it grows upward, and when it is in the mother's womb, the smell is disgusting, nauseating, contracting, and all the mother's food, clothing, and behavior are improper. Sometimes it is very hot like being in a fire pit, cold like being in ice and water, heavy like being pressed by a mountain, fearful like being thrown into a cliff, and extremely painful like being shaken upside down. At the time of birth, it is like fainting in a hell of gathering and destruction. When touched by hand, it is unbearable like flesh being touched by a razor. When bathing, it is hot like peeling skin, and so on. There are countless sufferings. Therefore, no matter where one is born, one cannot escape suffering. Therefore, one must now complete the cycle of birth, thinking like this, practice with the three perfections of preparation, main practice, and subsequent practice. Thirty-one Verses of Instructions. Then there is the suffering of old age. The body loses strength, making it difficult to stand, sit, and move. The radiance of the senses diminishes, the eyes become blurred, the ears cannot hear clearly, the memory is not clear, the ability to know is lost, wisdom decreases, and the heart becomes narrow. The increase and decrease of pulse and breath, clumsy like a child, and the senses are rough. Internal body and mind changes, diseases and harms increase, and it does not please everyone's mind. One prays for death in words, but in reality, one fears death, and so on. There are countless sufferings. Therefore, the Bodhi without aging and death

Thinking, one must accomplish it now. Thinking in this way, practice with the completeness of the three: preliminary, main, and concluding practices. Thirty-second Section of the Instructions. Then, contemplating the suffering of illness: The imbalance of the four elements causes intense feelings of pain. The nature of the body changes and decays, causing displeasure. The power of the senses diminishes, making it difficult to rise and sit from the bed. Nothing is pleasing, and thoughts are constantly disturbed. Obstacles arise from evil spirits, causing sudden and great terror. Now, the great mental suffering of fearing death, and so on. Contemplating its extremely unbearable nature, thinking, one must accomplish it now, obtaining the nectar that liberates from all suffering. Practice with the completeness of the three: preliminary, main, and concluding practices. Thirty-third Section of the Instructions. Then, the suffering of death: One remains at the end of the bed. One uses the last of one's food and clothing. One speaks the last words. Although surrounded by many relatives and friends, there is little benefit. Tormented by the feeling of death. Overcome by the torment of illusions. Entering the narrow path of the bardo. Gathering the arising of karma. Abandoning the appearances of this life. Striving for the realm of the next life. At the time of abandoning everything and going alone, like pulling a hair from butter, no matter how much food and wealth there is, one has no power to take even a bowl of tsampa and chang. No matter how many relatives and friends there are, one has no power to go with even one person, one must go alone, how sad this is! Now, having gone, one will not return. Therefore, from before until now, what is the point of subduing enemies, protecting relatives, decorating dwellings and possessions, and caring for children and relatives in this life? Thinking in this way, in order to accomplish the supreme path of deathless liberation, practice with the completeness of the three: preliminary, main, and concluding practices. Thirty-fourth Section of the Instructions. Then, the suffering of encountering the unpleasant: Encountering an unwanted person and having doubts of harm arising, suffering and being displeased even unwillingly. The suffering of separation from the pleasant: The death of relatives and friends, or like looking after someone who has gone to a distant place. Remembering their qualities, the gestures of body and speech, the mind is saddened and greatly displeased. The decay of good things, the decrease of merit, and so on, giving rise to sorrow from separation from whatever is pleasing. Form, feeling, thought,
